‼️ NA's proposals to combat immigration have been swept under the rug just 3 days before the elections. 🤯 Outrageous audacity! https://t.co/ypENyQj02k

In the Ragozina case, the question is simple: is Latvia ready to say politically that a person who systematically disseminates messages favourable to Russia and discredits Ukraine is not welcome here. Such a decision is within the competence of the foreign minister and is not appealable, unlike an entry ban, which would be within the competence of the interior minister and is appealable. When loud headlines and quick publicity were needed, there was no problem quickly adding hockey players, musicians and who knows what else to the list (and rightly so!). Meanwhile, when it comes to a person who for years has legitimised the aggressor's foreign policy from Europe and burnished its image, a strange blindness and faint-hearted buck-passing suddenly set in. If the Foreign Ministry is satisfied with Ragozina's activities and statements so far, just say so openly. Blaming the interior minister for shirking responsibility at a time when they themselves are afraid to use the powers clearly delegated by law is simply a sign of weakness.
From@Braze_BaibaGiven that the Ministry of the Interior has issued a residence permit in Latvia to the Russian citizen mentioned by the minister, the decision is within the competence of the Minister of the Interior under Article 104 of the Immigration Law. I would advise the minister not to evade responsibility a few days before the elections. https://t.co/Xy9iPTWdbQ

From@janisdombravaGiven the fact that Russian citizen L. Ragozin has over a long period of time publicly expressed views that are clearly contrary to Latvia's national interests, I therefore call on the Foreign Minister to include the said person on the list of persons undesirable to the Republic of Latvia (persona non grata). In his public activities, L. Ragozin has: blamed the West for Russia's aggressive actions; spoken about the ineffectiveness of sanctions, calling them provocative towards Russia; tried to justify Russia's aggressive foreign policy by questioning that Russia could have imperialist interests in gaining influence in Ukraine and elsewhere; discredited Ukraine, its political leadership and armed forces. His expressed views have often overlapped with messages intended to reduce Western support for Ukraine; in public activities he has criticised the West and Ukraine. Consequently, his activities can be assessed as aimed at steering Western public opinion in a direction favourable to Russia. Because of such activities, L. Ragozin's political undesirability in Europe (persona non grata) would be justified, but these activities cannot be considered as establishing the circumstances referred to in the Immigration Law that authorise the Minister of the Interior to include a person on the list of foreigners whose entry into the Republic of Latvia is prohibited, therefore I call on the Foreign Minister to take a decision on including this person on the persona non grata list.

@ViktorsValainis @Rajevskis Viktor, as an opposition representative of the budget committee, I take full responsibility for this failure. 1000 apologies and I hope for understanding..😃
From@ViktorsValainisHow long will we still put up with this?! For every endless check, document, and bureaucratic dragging-on, in the end the Latvian person and entrepreneur pay! For banks these are costs, and they are included in the price of our loans, which are the most expensive! Why does such nonsense still continue?! Sad. https://t.co/UKKxTSDWUR

@gatis_auzins And doesn't the liberal Braže avoid declaring "persona non grata"?
From@gatis_auzinsAgain the nationalists' flag-waving and manipulation of their supporters. Dombrava avoids any responsibility and the cancellation of Rogozin's residence permit. Is this not just covering for Rogozin in the nationalist style? https://t.co/ADF8Azkg7l

The former welfare minister Reinis Uzulnieks, caught driving under heavy intoxication, has been charged with driving with at least 1.5 per mille alcohol in his blood. The maximum penalty is up to one year in prison. https://t.co/sxrQlOIeOG
@Braze_Baiba Additionally, please put him on the "persona non grata" list. https://t.co/iGNSHHpyqI
From@zuravlevs@janisdombrava Can't we just revoke his residence permit and instruct the PMLP to do it? In addition, "persona non grata" would also be useful.

BNN in focus | A political scientist's view. The leader in the polls is clear, but with whom to form the government? Rajevskis on the biggest unknown.
Municipal deputies also have no business in aggressor states! For the fifth year now, russia continues its bloody and senseless war against Ukraine, yet we still have municipal deputies in Latvia who regularly travel to russia and belarus, especially from Suverēnā Vara / Jaunlatvieši. What exactly are they doing there and what interests do they represent here? That is why, together with colleagues from the @Jauna_Vienotiba faction @patmalnieksj @AgneseKrasta @a_latkovskis and @aseradens, we have drafted a bill that also prohibits municipal deputies from going back and forth to aggressor states. I hope the Saeima majority will support this bill tomorrow!
For four months I have been raising this issue with you and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that, according to the assessment of the competent authorities, this step must be taken by the foreign minister under the conditions of Section 104, Paragraph 1, Clause 1 of the Immigration Law. If you have an assessment from even one competent authority that the interior minister can include this particular person on the "black list", then send it to me. I will gladly do it already today! However, as far as I know, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not have such an assessment that the aforementioned person can be included on the "black list" by the interior minister.

Can this really not be resolved in four months @MarisKucinskis @Finmin ?! It is not the first time with problems of a similar nature, and @LatvijasBanka has a special mechanism created to provide a solution for timely account opening within the law. https://t.co/5c9hOwbees

From@Ivars_AbolinsStrengthening the role of the Russian language in Uzbekistan at the expense of Latvian taxpayers. This is exactly what has happened with the co-financing of EUR 11,734 granted by the Society Integration Foundation (SIF) to the association Centre Marta. The project aims to “promote the involvement of Latvian civil society organisations and strengthen capacities in an international cooperation project aimed at preventing gender-based violence and developing a support system in Uzbekistan, providing methodological tools and training to local NGOs and other interested partners to improve the identification, support and social integration of victims of violence.” The project was implemented in a multilingual environment, and the methodological (!!!) and informational materials are available in Russian and Uzbek. So the methodological materials are in Russian. At a time when Latvia’s budget lacks funds and we cannot always help our own people, the presence of the Russian language in Uzbekistan is being expanded at the expense of the whole society. This case once again shows that SIF must in fact be liquidated or seriously reformed, and things cannot continue as they are.

From@liana_langaA little I will inform about the political games, so that before the elections the work done by NA would not be visible: 1/ The amendments to the Higher Education Law were approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on 8 September; on 11 September @AndrisKulbergs sent them to the Education Committee of party member Batņa. 2/ The Ministry of Education and Science asked to include them on the IKZK agenda; that did not happen. 3/ On 17 September they were considered in the Saeima and handed over for review to Batņa's committee. 4/ At the 21 September cooperation meeting, the coalition partners agreed to consider the law amendments before the elections. 5/ On 22 September, MP Normunds Dzintars asked at the committee meeting to include them in the agenda; THAT WAS DENIED! 6/ Now it has scheduled review in the subcommittee for 6 October and in the committee for 13 October. WHY is that? Think, friend!
