16053From@SirupsPhttps://t.co/rGajA34C6q is, as they say, a short ruble. This is a rarer case, because here we see a short kopeck! And that is what the television of Zaķusala, with its already overgrown and young hares, is doing? 😡 How many millions is this television fleecing from our taxpayers' money? That is what they show us. That is not LTV. It is LFTV! Latvia's Freak Tele Vision!

Guntar, I was there. Sorry, nothing new.. 🤷♂️ https://t.co/UlRyYmSuuS https://t.co/yoGZShFt7C
From@guntarsvToday there was hysteria in the Saeima Budget Committee. We showed the true state of the budget. This follows the Kübler-Ross model (described in the book 'On Death and Dying'). The first stage is denial. They denied the data, refused to believe it, and started shouting. What is it about? You see, the projected budget for the coming years has been deep in the red for a long time. This is publicly known. More than a billion needs to be cut, but mainly by 2030. That is far away. But that is only half the trouble. There are also additional decisions adopted for over 2 billion that need to be cut on top of that. And they have been promised, but money in the budget will be sought only after the elections (because it is a political choice and not for this Saeima). There you have it — so what will we take away? Only the new Saeima may decide that. Logically. And together it is apocalyptic — billions are not millions and not even hundreds. It means limiting public expenditure. Which ones? Well, that will be the choice of the next coalition/Saeima. We showed the apocalyptic hole in the wallet that has been built up over many years. And that is not all. These deficits are if we continue borrowing as before. Up to the brim. To achieve a deficit-free budget, 9 billion need to be cut. You could even dismiss all ministries and shut the state down, and it still would not be enough. So there you have it. Ten years of blatherers in power. What did you expect?

From@RenarsKadzulis@gatisozols You are organizing another election with a criminal offense — the ETVR system, which does not exist and has not been developed, as the Prosecutor's Office claims in the fraud charge brought against me and is now putting me on trial? Are elections organized this way legitimate?

From@Jauna_Vienotiba🇱🇻 Latvia's position on sanctions has been clear and consistent – sanctions against Russia must be strengthened, not weakened. Baiba Braže defended Latvia's objections to removing Usmanov and Fridman from the EU sanctions list to the very end. Latvia maintained the common sanctions regime against more than 2,600 individuals and entities, but imposed national sanctions on both oligarchs. Therefore, criticism of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for insufficiently defending Latvia's interests in this situation is unfounded – quite the opposite, Latvian diplomats defended this position to the end. https://t.co/qDecvCqUZb

From@RihardsKolsIn the Saeima elections I urge you to support @janisdombrava! In a couple of months Jānis has shown what can be done when he is given the opportunity and trusted with responsibility. Our security must be strengthened every day, and it begins with the ability to make decisive decisions, put the system in order and defend Latvia's national interests. Jānis does this work honourably. So - @VL_TBLNNK, list no. 5, and in Vidzeme - exactly @janisdombrava!

I see, tomorrow to the third reading, a communist mess. Interesting whether the ruling coalition led by AS and @AndrisKulbergs will approve Judins' (JV) initiative to criminalize business with absurd prison sentences for possible prohibited agreements between entrepreneurs?
@Tim_Sportsnews @Stalts @Braze_Baiba Abroad in the broader sense they do not know her, but in the world of high diplomacy she is, let's say, not... a superstar.
From@Tim_Sportsnews@Stalts @Braze_Baiba Because she is respected abroad and she has a firm stance on several important issues. Super 👌🏻

From@AndraKaupe@JurgisLiepnieks My choice is NA, but I would also urge centrist voters this time to support LA, because the main election intrigue is whether a government can be formed without both Šlesers and Pro. Support for AS is sufficient even without your vote, whereas LA's entry/non-entry into the Saeima could be decisive.

In everyday life I review a great many of the world's biggest media outlets — it is hard to remember Baiba Braže's name and quotes. Such things certainly exist somewhere, but they rarely appear, or are not in the leading columns at all. She earned a sorry reputation when she supported Latvia's payments to UNRWA, even though NATO, where she previously worked, knew very well that UNRWA in Gaza serves as an unlimited ATM for Hamas terrorists. Moreover, they are Kremlin allies and have been officially recognized by the EU as a terrorist organization. So Braže organized aid to this terrorist group. At taxpayers' expense, of course. So that, for example, Hamas operatives such as Khaled Meshaal or Khalil al-Hayya could continue living in luxury hotels. Dāvi, the pre-election period is thin ice — when to start passing off the desired as the existing.
From@StaltsHave you noticed that a record number of Western media outlets are interviewing Latvia's Foreign Minister @Braze_Baiba, with marked regularity? I cannot recall a single Latvian politician whom all these leading media have interviewed and asked for an opinion so much. Interesting. P.S. - that is not pre-election advertising, but I cannot help saying it aloud. It is too conspicuous. https://t.co/Rr40rWLVxz

From@lastguru_netI agree with much of this assessment. In these elections, I will also vote for @attistibai. It's not that everything is 100% ideal, but nowhere is there… It's clear that from the existing offering I can't choose anything else. https://t.co/rESY8AcK8j

@deduktors If there is a chance to be prime minister, he will be there. If not, it would be foolish to give up the mandate. Dombrovskis, who is on Unity's posters, won't come here though.
From@deduktors@JurgisLiepnieks One of LA's biggest minuses is their choice of PM candidate. Ījabs might be a good lecturer at university, but as a politician he is pretty useless. Moreover, he clearly and openly says that he doesn't even intend to go to the Saeima and won't leave Brussels at all. Even Lembergs didn't do that.

Day No. 78 (THURSDAY 17 Sept) — Meeting with US envoy John Coale and the Swedish ARCHER howitzer story; LIZDA 🤝 Meeting at the Cabinet of Ministers with the US D. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) envoy on Belarusian affairs, John Coale (@johnpcoale). So active, sharp-minded and with a good sense of humour – I was surprised to learn that he is already 80 years old. ➖ He had just returned from a meeting with Lukashenko, where, thanks to his efforts, a large number of political prisoners were released ➖ It was a very substantive conversation in which we discussed the situation in Belarus, the US role, the war in Ukraine and the issue of Russia and Ukraine's grain blockade ➖ I particularly highlighted Russia's organised hybrid attack with the flow of illegal migrants to the LV border through Belarus, in which special services participate and which they organise – I presented the latest figures and measures ➖ I stressed that US–Latvian economic relations cooperation must be changed and raised to a new level from 15th place into the TOP 5️⃣ – I mentioned the military industry, the energy sector and US cargo flows from Central Asia ➖ He promised to discuss the Latvian question with D. Trump 🛡️ The defence deal question on the ARCHER system from Sweden 🤷♂️ It is incomprehensible what motives drove the previous defence minister not to make a decision for 2 years on the purchase of the defence system and howitzers. To me it is a mystery, because if the decision had been made, we would already have had systems delivered that would fill a significant pillar of Latvia's critical defence plan. ➖ Because of the delayed and unadopted procurement decision, it is now necessary to assess which supplier is more suitable so that we can fill this position as quickly as possible. With the Czech 'Morana' system, this can be done at least 1.5 years faster ➖ Capabilities and total costs are also not unimportant. The Czech system works with all NATO and Latvia-held 155 mm ammunition, and there is a very large financial difference – we simply do not have the resources in the Ministry of Defence budget to buy the expensive Swedish systems. Moreover, the Czech manufacturer will localise 20% of production in Latvia – that means jobs, taxes and production capacity! ➖ The NBS already a year ago and again now confirmed point by point that it is not changing its assessment – for Latvia's needs the Czech system is more suitable because it covers the needs fastest 👥 Meeting with LIZDA (@lizda_lv) ➖ We talked about education reform and the fact that changes need to be less frequent and smaller. Schools and teachers are very tired of constant changes ➖ We discussed budget issues – I listened to LIZDA's and teachers' demands, while LIZDA's head Inga Vanaga also listened to my and the Cabinet's questions about state finances and the budget 📡 Meeting with OTAN ➖ OTAN military communication system that can combine all communication networks into one – a solution for civil protection services and municipalities to be in a single communication system. It is a very worth-considering option to deploy it across all Latvia, not only for military needs in the border area. I will speak with Raivis Melnis about funding 💪🇱🇻 📰 I gave interviews to Bloomberg magazine and , LIZDA

Any restriction of expenditure will, of course, affect current GDP. GDP already reflects current spending. Example from the Kalvītis floor-it period. Money flowed in streams, on credit. It was a good party. GDP grew at great cost. Nice? And then a severe hangover. I doubt that this scenario needs to be repeated. In my opinion. Of course, if borrowed money is not pumped into consumption, it will have a negative impact on today's spending (GDP). How much? Economists are trying to forecast it. But it will not be 1:1, because our spending also includes many imported goods. Purchasing imported goods has virtually no effect on GDP. Well, then you can look at scenarios. Whatever they may be. And then estimate the negative impact on GDP.
From@RajevskisWhat GDP forecast do you see under this scenario, since it will inevitably also be affected by expenditure restraint?
