From@TaisuKremusDMWhen the Progressives came to power, I hoped that through them cannabis would be decriminalized (you can grow a couple of plants yourself, forbidden to sell, buy, hold large amounts) as in almost all of Europe. But no, they made a couple of pedestrian crossings, caused a scandal, and ruined Rail Baltica. 👺

In Germany, government ratings are so catastrophic (especially for Merz), AfD's dramatic rise is so decisive that the government has punched another hole in an empty wallet and is trying to reduce fuel prices. Completely pointless. When fuel prices from 1.5 euros rapidly race above 2, and even 3 is not fantasy, this will do nothing. But the ordinary voter likes it. Reason is a museum-worthy thing.
From@realNepareizaisFrom 1 October to the end of the year, Germany plans to reduce the excise tax on petrol and diesel by 14 cents/l. Together with VAT, that would be about 17 cents/l. The German government also plans talks with the oil industry to introduce fuel price caps by no later than 1 January 2027, following the Belgian or Luxembourg model – the state sets a maximum selling price that is adjusted according to oil prices and costs.

France has been in a destructive spiral of public debt for many years. Politicians fail to maintain fiscal discipline, the rating is gradually downgraded, the interest rate on debt increases, the debt itself grows. France is currently the biggest time bomb in the EU that threatens to trigger the next financial crisis. If it doesn't go off outside the EU first. As elections come, they promise again, because how can one not promise while the can is rolling and rattling down the mountain. By the way, we have a similar situation. All 4 years of the next Saeima are red, in deficit. Not only have promises been made, but a series of decisions have been made to allocate funds without coverage (hundreds of millions every year until Doomsday). Practically all are heartbreakingly good intentions, how can you object to them? For example, small schools with 3 children per class. Meanwhile, the appetite does not subside. For the elections, parties energetically throw in the next good intentions as if they were tires for the Midsummer bonfire. Hang in there ✊

Reading is a value. It broadens one's horizons and develops critical thinking. Yesterday, more than 800 residents of Bauska joined a 500-meter-long chain of book lovers, symbolically starting the Central Library's move to new premises. The library has operated in its current home for 75 years. Its collection holds approximately 45,000 items, about 3,000 readers use the library, and a third of them are students. Literacy cannot be improved only with new curricula and tests. It is formed in the family, at school, and in the library. It arises in places where a book is accessible to a child and reading becomes a daily habit. A library in a region is not a luxury. It is important infrastructure for education, culture, and the local community. Joy for Bauska and the people who showed by their presence how much the new library means to them!
