Within the framework of the European Union's next multiannual budget, it is important to secure sufficient funding for Latvian farmers, support for the eastern border, and resources to strengthen our country's competitiveness. Negotiations at EU level have already begun, and Latvia's position in them must be shaped in a timely manner. Already now, European countries are seeking common positions, which will later serve as the basis for reaching a final agreement.
Today in the Saeima we heard representatives of the European Commission, the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Latvia's priorities. These interests must be clearly defended throughout the negotiation process, so that in the next seven-year period Latvia has the necessary funding for development, investment and security.
