In Germany this morning, the former head of the German BND (German Federal Intelligence Service), August Hanning, who led the institution from 1998 to 2005, was arrested. He is accused of espionage and high treason "to a foreign power". By "foreign power" Russia/China is meant. Also arrested is a top-class employee who worked at BND until January this year and had previously been head of his office. August Hanning previously sat on the board of "PNB Bank", which was driven to bankruptcy, so his pension was, in principle, confiscated, because he is one of the defendants in a still ongoing court case.
