NATO must additionally prepare for the possibility of near-term conventional Russian attacks that would not be militarily existential to NATO but could be politically existential by dividing NATO. https://t.co/IJxetZuQPF

NEW | SPECIAL REPORT: The Kremlin is conducting a coordinated series of kinetic campaigns targeting Europe, and NATO states must understand and forthrightly discuss both these ongoing Russian campaigns against Europe and the evolving character of the near-term Russian conventional threat. The Russian government has long considered itself to be in a long-term conflict with the West — a conflict it has recently escalated through a coordinated series of kinetic campaigns against European targets beyond Ukraine. European states must both understand internally and publicly name these campaigns for what they are: coordinated kinetic and non-kinetic attacks against NATO military and civilian targets, not isolated incidents or “provocations.” European officials’ increased willingness to publicly discuss Russia’s kinetic campaigns is positive, but much of the language NATO and individual European states use to discuss the ongoing Russian campaigns still obfuscates the coordinated and coherent nature of the Russian efforts. NATO must additionally prepare for the possibility of near-term conventional Russian attacks that would not be militarily existential to NATO but could be politically existential by dividing NATO, and on a timeline faster than those that many European officials currently orient themselves on. NATO and European states require a shared understanding of the problem to design and execute coordinated policies to defeat ongoing Russian kinetic campaigns and deter the Russian conventional threat. NATO and European states have three overall tasks. First, NATO and Europe must understand and respond to the ongoing Russian kinetic campaigns against Europe, and must use clear language when communicating about Russian actions to facilitate prompt and meaningful responses. Second, NATO and Europe must rapidly accelerate efforts to forecast and prepare for the risk of a potential near-term limited Russian conventional attack that NATO is not yet sufficiently taking into account Third, NATO and Europe must improve ongoing efforts to leverage lessons from Ukraine and forecasts of the changing character of war and strengthen NATO’s ability to deter or defeat the evolving conventional Russian military threat. These three challenges are interlinked and must be taken as a whole. Open, clear-eyed, and prompt discussion of potential European policy responses are essential to respond to the ongoing Russian threat and the risk of further Russian actions to test or directly attack NATO. Canada as the first EU associate member? Such a political proposal has been made by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. This is not yet a legally defined status or a decision, but an offer to create a completely new model of EU-Canada relations. The goal is to move from the CETA trade agreement to a much deeper future alliance, namely a common economic security space, closer defense industry cooperation, as well as joint projects in energy, critical raw material supplies, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and projects in the Arctic. The foundation is already established. Since CETA's application, EU-Canada goods trade has increased by 75%. For Latvia, this is not a distant foreign policy topic. Canada leads NATO's multinational brigade in Latvia and has applied to participate in the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), where Latvia, the other Baltic and Nordic countries, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom cooperate. Canada's closer integration with the EU would strengthen European security, economic resilience, and the ability to reduce strategic dependence on authoritarian regimes. Latvia should support this idea, while demanding that the new status be filled with concrete rights, obligations, and joint projects, not just remain a political name.

I look at those ratings where the most beloved Latvian parties are ranked. And they all (I repeat - ALL!) support bringing immigrants to Latvia. The Progressives even fan over border crossers and refugees sent by Russia. Kulbergs lobbies for Turība Rostovskis with Indian "students" and LDDK entrepreneurs with cheap Central Asian labor. Šlesers doesn't distinguish nationalities at all, everyone is fine to him, he has never understood the meaning of a national state. As for the others - JV, NA, ZZS, no questions at all - it is during their rule that tens of thousands have been brought to Latvia in recent years, and they are the ones who make sure that, in the Brussels style, this process is without any control. Conclusion - on October 3, Latvians have the last chance to say their word in this matter. Because the next chance for Latvians to influence anything will be in 4 years again. And then everything will be too late. Like in the Swedish elections 3 days ago. When the local opinion is no longer important. Purely mathematically. The only survival path for a small nation like ours - Japan's immigration model. The rest is suicide. MMN.

Von der Leyen began her #SOTEU speech with a Dickens quote - "those were the best of times, those were the worst of times". Beautiful reference. But during the hour-long speech, the political slogans never touched the context of the quote. Lots of visions and "architecture", little content - new council, new protocol, and almost no concrete proposals for legislative changes. And that is the same inability we see in Latvian politics. The inability to admit that priority cannot be everything. Decisions are difficult precisely because when choosing one, the other is left out. That is exactly what priorities mean, and they require the ability to say it to the public. A speech where priority is everything is not a priorities speech. On security, she said one almost correct sentence: "hybrid threats are becoming increasingly less hybrid and increasingly less threats." Almost correct because the ability to directly and unambiguously say what most of society acknowledges – we are being attacked – was missing. But that is secondary. So that is the diagnosis. And now we look at what the planned "treatment" is. A new "emergency security protocol" that will allow member states to convene a meeting. We can already convene meetings. We already know how to condemn. Condemnation has not yet stopped Russia. About the idea of a "European Article 4". We already have one, it's called NATO, and it works. Estonia activated it after Russian fighter jets entered, and allies responded. Creating a parallel EU version does not increase capabilities, it just creates another exercise that should be performed at a time when there is not really time for performative marches. If the goal is deterrence, then we must understand that we do not strengthen deterrence by creating double structures. The same for the European Security Council. The idea first appeared in the 1980s and has been written off multiple times since. If the answer to an explosive-equipped drone hovering somewhere over Kaunas is another discussion format to talk about it – perhaps there is a lack of understanding of what the problem is. I'll tell you – it is not a lack of discussion formats. We also really don't need another "Conference on the Future of Europe". To be fair, VDL also announced some sensible initiatives in her speech. The European Strategic Support Capabilities instrument, coordinated with NATO, is needed because strategic air transport and in-flight refueling are exactly the capabilities we lack and for which we rely on the Americans. The Freyja missile defense project with Ukraine is the right direction, because Ukraine today knows more about air defense than anyone else in Europe. Joint projects with Ukrainian companies from SAFE funds are a sensible way to use the remaining funds. And enforcement of existing sanctions and prevention of circumvention, rather than chasing a symbolic next package, is a pragmatic choice. Canada as an "associate member"? That also sounds good, and we should strengthen cooperation with Canada – it is a good and strong ally. But the EU founding treaties do not change by themselves. The announcement is one thing, but achieving it requires a real legal solution and/or treaty amendments. Unless what VDL is talking about is simply an expanded trade agreement with a nicer name. Before applauding, I would like to know what exactly it will be. Whether anything announced will be able to "escape" from the PowerPoint presentation, we can judge in a year. It would also have been good to hear about what was accomplished from what was promised last year. Migration is the place where this speech needed something concrete. There wasn't. "All our external borders are European borders" sounds nice, but what happened in Seuta would not have happened if our external borders were strong enough. The proposed answer – a new emergency response mechanism that allows more flexible deviations from asylum procedures when the situation is already out of control – is needed, but at least equally necessary are solutions that would prevent the situation from spiraling out of control. In summary – the diagnoses are mostly correct. The prescriptions are worse. And Europe's problem is long since not that we don't understand what is happening. The problem is that understanding does not result in action.

🛑 AS, ZZS AND NA DON'T WANT AN EXTRAORDINARY SAEIMA SESSION, BUT PEOPLE HAVE TO PAY THE BILLS! Fuel price crisis, expensive heating, cosmic pellet prices. What will happen to electricity prices on the exchange? How will people pay for all this? On top of that, news about high interest rates and larger monthly payments! If AS, ZZS and NA don't want to address these issues in an extraordinary Saeima session, we are forced to turn to President Rinkēvičs. We call on Edgars Rinkēvičs to finally delve into the problems of Latvia and its people and use the powers granted by Article 46 of the Constitution - to convene and chair an extraordinary Cabinet meeting on the rise in energy resource prices and concrete state measures to mitigate the burden it creates. Let all responsible ministers sit at one table and leave the meeting only when a decision has been made - what and how they will do, when they will do it, and who will be responsible for it! We don't accept - "discussed and talked"! THERE IS NO TIME TO CHATTER - ACT! What do you think, will President Rinkēvičs act or will he again do nothing?

The Progressives clearly announced that they want to legalize same-sex marriage in Latvia! To achieve this, it is necessary to amend Article 110 of the Constitution of the Republic of Latvia with two-thirds of the votes of Saeima deputies: "The State protects and supports ❗️marriage — a union between a man and a woman❗️ family, the rights of parents and the child."❗️ The Progressive Šuvājevs announced that he wants to change the constitutional amendments introduced by Šlesers! I want to confirm that indeed, on the initiative of my party, constitutional amendments were achieved, which the Saeima adopted on December 15, 2005, and they entered into force on January 17, 2006. With these amendments, Article 110 was expressed in a new wording, which stipulated that: "marriage is a union between a man and a woman". I want to clearly state that the party LPV - Latvia First will not support constitutional amendments that the Progressives want to make to legalize same-sex marriage in Latvia!

"Progressives" are ready to advance the issue of same-sex marriage, confirms the party's candidate for prime minister Andris Šuvajevs. He states: "The Progressives have always believed that it is necessary to change the amendments to the Constitution implemented by Šlesers." ▶️ Watch "Next, please!": https://t.co/XRb7AlAzh3 #SIF_MAF2026
