The acquisition of the “Archer” wheeled artillery system – a thoroughly evaluated and justified choice. The decision on this type of procurement was made by a council consisting of the Ministry of Defence and the leadership and specialists of the National Armed Forces. When such purchases were approved in the government in January 2026, the choice was presented and justified by NBS representatives. First, the choice was made between the Swedish system “Archer,” which has been tested and proven in combat in Ukraine, and the alternative Czech “Morana,” which, although cheaper, existed only at the prototype level. Other systems, such as the French “Caesar” chosen by Lithuania, Estonia, and also the Czech Republic, were rejected by the NBS. Second, speed of delivery was one of the important selection criteria. An agreement has been reached that still this year – while the Swedish manufacturer would fulfil Latvia's order – a temporary and practically equivalent solution provided by the manufacturer would be used and training would be carried out together with Swedish soldiers. Third, Sweden is a strategic ally of Latvia in the security field, whose military industry manufacturers have an impeccable reputation. The presence of the Swedish battalion is an important contribution to our security. In January, a roadmap for interstate defence cooperation was signed, which should further strengthen Sweden's presence in Latvia – in the air, at sea and on land, as well as defence industry cooperation. Therefore, the expressed criticism about the acquisition of the combat-tested wheeled artillery system “Archer” is clearly to be assessed as an inability to bring the initiated progress to a result important for our security.

A million for political campaigning turned out to be too much? KNAB proposes changes
From@atis_svinkaEducation and knowledge are the only thing that cannot be taken away from a person. In a sense, the education minister wants to deprive young people of the opportunity for good education in Latvia. Education Minister Ilze Indriksone this week continues to push forward NA's changes in education. They are being driven through in a hurry, already after the start of the school year and without full consultation with schools, teachers, and industry experts. The result is chaos and many unanswered questions. Schools will have to rework their assessment procedures within a few days. From now on, each school will largely decide itself which tests a student can improve, when and how that happens, and whether different weights are applied to grades. Greater autonomy for schools and teachers is in itself supportable. But without unified, timely explained principles, it can increase assessment differences between schools. At the same time, it is planned to completely abolish the threshold for passing the 9th grade exam. Exams will be mandatory, but even a very low result will no longer prevent receiving a basic education certificate. It is understandable to reduce the disproportionate impact of one exam on a child's future. But the minister must answer how it will be demonstrated in the future that a basic education document also means a minimum level of knowledge and skills. The extra work for teachers and school administration has not been calculated either. Repeated tests, consultations, individual tasks, and new internal procedures. No additional funding is planned, and no post-change evaluation is even scheduled. A brilliant start to the new school year with hastily adopted regulations and the obligation for schools to deal with the consequences themselves. Education policy must be aimed not only at ensuring that a young person receives a diploma and enters the labor market faster, but at ensuring that the diploma confirms real knowledge and skills. The minister has not convincingly explained how these changes will ensure that.

In Jelgava, a citizen of Uzbekistan has committed indecent acts against a minor in a courtyard.
From@janisdombravaPolice informed that on Friday in Jelgava a citizen of Uzbekistan was detained, who had committed indecent acts against a minor in a courtyard. Before that, he had engaged in targeted communication with the child and at his residence possibly kept narcotic substances. The person resides in Latvia as an auxiliary worker with a long-term visa. The State Police has acted actively to investigate this case and determine: whether this is an isolated case of possible pedophilia by a third-country citizen, whether the person has committed other similar crimes, or whether a wider circle of persons is involved? There will be no tolerance in the internal affairs system for foreigners who commit crimes. Such persons are a threat to society, not an economic contribution.

Nothing new! We are currently at the stage Western Europe was in the early 2000s, but here these processes are moving much faster. The safety of children's playgrounds and the peace of our families are non-negotiable. If we don't act immediately, we will reach the crime levels of third countries in an instant. Immigration should not be "controlled" with paperwork - it must be stopped! On October 3, vote for "Austošā Saule Latvijai"!
From@Valsts_policijaOn September 4, the State Police received information that in Jelgava, on the territory of a children's playground, a man allegedly committed indecent acts against a minor. State Police officers immediately went to the indicated location and the person was detained. A criminal process has been initiated by the State Police under Section 160, Part Four of the Criminal Law for committing sexual acts against a minor. The person has been placed in custody: https://t.co/uNshBYuNXQ

@realNepareizais I think it's a very good idea
From@realNepareizaisPoland wants to achieve significant changes in the EU's approach to granting asylum on its external border. Warsaw proposes that the EU agree that people who cross the border in organized groups, using violence or damaging border infrastructure, would not have the right to international protection. Poland bases its position on Article 33(2) of the 1951 Geneva Convention. It allows, in certain cases, a derogation from the non-refoulement principle, which prohibits sending a refugee to a country where they face persecution. Warsaw wants to achieve a broader interpretation of this exception, applying it also to persons who, in an organized and violent manner, force the EU's external border. In practice, the implementation of such an approach would be particularly significant on the Poland–Belarus border. Warsaw does not consider the migration pressure from Belarus as an ordinary migration crisis, but as an element of a hybrid war carried out by Belarus and Russia. Poland wants to advance this issue at the EU level to achieve a unified approach across the Union. Thus, Warsaw's goal is to strengthen the principle that organized and violent crossing of the EU's external border cannot serve as a path to obtaining asylum in the EU.
