The main duty of the media during the pre-election period is to convey to the public information about what politicians offer. The media do not run in elections. Later, in the Saeima, deputies work not with an imperative mandate but with a representative mandate. That is, they do not carry out anyone's given tasks or orders, but vote according to their conscience, representing the whole nation as a whole. For candidates, the main thing is to communicate what their party's initiatives will be and what their party's general approach will be (in contrast to other offers), so that the voter can judge whether to trust this person and their political force to decide on their behalf. The Saeima elections are not an exam of specialists, the Saeima elections are not the result of an investigation. Anyone from the people with basic education can work in the Saeima. The Saeima has much more in common with a randomly selected jury in America than with a group of officials who passed an exam. I am glad that there are still media that have not forgotten these things, especially that the main thing is to find out what candidates and lists offer, rather than making a show about self-chosen crumbs and nothing.
News about Latvian nationals in the tragic event in Nepal For now there is still hope to find our Latvians alive. This evening Foreign Minister @Braze_Baiba spoke with Nepal's foreign minister to discuss the rescue operation and the latest information about Latvian nationals. Over the past two days 260 people have been rescued, including many foreigners. Unfortunately the number of dead is already close to a thousand. The floods and landslides were so destructive that people and everything in their path were swept away as far as 100–200 kilometres. The missing number 2–3 thousand. Communications are still down in many places. The situation is very complicated, chaos prevails, but rescue operations continue. And as long as they continue, there is hope. We know that approximately 43 Latvian nationals were in Nepal, and there are concerns that some of them may have been affected by this tragedy. At the same time, hopeful information has emerged. There are reports that a group of people managed to cross the border with China shortly before the devastating landslide. There is currently no communication in this area, so there is no precise information yet about the people in the group. Latvia's Foreign Ministry is also in contact with the Chinese side. Approximately 45 minutes' drive from the border, in a small mountain town, a group of foreigners may be located. We have asked the Chinese side to find out the names of these people as soon as possible. There is hope that Latvian nationals may also be among them. I very well understand what our travellers' families and loved ones are going through right now. They are waiting for any news, trying to understand where their loved ones are and what else can be done. At such moments, uncertainty is extremely hard. Regarding the tourism company "Yantra", the Latvian Association of Tourism Operators has informed us that the company is not a member of the association. We have also received information that the company has not been issued a tour operator or travel agent licence. PTAC is currently clarifying the circumstances and whether the company was entitled to organise such group trips. At the same time, travellers' relatives have indicated that they had no complaints about the company's work and had travelled with it before. Right now, however, the most important thing is not to find those to blame. The most important thing is to find people. I express my deepest condolences to all those who have already lost their loved ones in this disaster. Latvia's services are doing and will continue to do everything in our power to obtain information about our people and help them. But there are moments when human strength alone is not enough. For now, all that remains is to ask higher powers for a miracle — that our people have been spared from this catastrophe and that we receive news as soon as possible: they are alive and safe. Until the opposite is known, hope remains. P.s. For contact information, call the MFA's 24-hour consular assistance phone +371 26337711 or write to email: palidziba@mfa.gov.lv

@BSmildzina Everywhere in Latvia, the world, in this and other Multiverse universes, party factions and JV care for the grub; from their state-allocated 1.2M funding they could already afford a pie. In the picture: a starving person in opposition https://t.co/Ee4IR6uIlJ

📣 Pre-election debates have started in the media. It was an honor to represent the National Alliance on TV24. In the leaders' debates there was a question: Why should voters even go to vote? After Russia's full-scale war in Ukraine, pro-Russian forces had initially retreated. That is no longer the case. Currently in Western Europe and also in Latvia, pro-Russian forces are raising their heads, and Russian disinformation and active operations also play a role here. Ukrainians warn: those who are called 'žduni' (from the word - to wait) are being deliberately activated to work against their own country. Russian troops bring with them war crimes, brutality, destruction, complete lawlessness. Historically, we have already experienced this once... Latvia has its own 5th column that ideologically walks in step with Russia and Belarus, not with Ukraine or Latvia. The coming to power of such forces is dangerous for Latvia. #Saeimasvēlēšanas2026 #Ukraina #Tv24 @VL_TBLNNK #TavaNacionālāApvienība
From@BadBalticTakes“Hybrid schmybrid.” says the Estonian spy chief in this rare interview. We should abandon euphemisms, according to Kaupo Rosin of @valisluure, and call Russia’s sabotage and subversion by its proper name of “state-sponsored terrorism”. The UK’s @Telegraph has done a great write up in praise of Estonian spies who “pound for pound” can “probably knock us into a cocked hat” according to his British counterpart at Mi6. (It apparently means they are very good). On reports that the CIA Chief visited Moscow to warn against an attack on NATO, Rosin says: “I think that’s a bit exaggerated and there were other topics discussed.” Rosin offers some insight into Russia: “What we see is that in Russian society, by now, everybody ‘knows’ that the mobilisation will come. There is a lot of talk about it in Russia. Everybody knows somebody who works in the military who has said that mobilisation will come.” “I do not see a street revolution happening at this point. More important is what people who have access to money, weapons and information – what do they think? In these circles, there is no more talk about total victory. People are discussing different scenarios, and mainly how to end this [war] in a proper way.” He points to the Prigozhin mutiny as a sign of how hollow and surprisingly weak the system might be on the inside. “I would say, if something changes in Russia, then it will happen in a very rapid manner and we will all be surprised. It will be an overnight thing, if it ever happens.” https://t.co/oiC8nEsGsR
