No one is interested in politics. There's no point in voting. That's what quite a few people on the streets tell me. But then a storm comes. It affects almost everyone. The storm is a tragic but also a healthy reminder that man is not almighty. Politics cannot change climate and weather, but politics is all those decisions that determine what attitude toward the state as a nanny we cultivate, how we prepare society, how we centralize or decentralize the ability to act, for example, by restricting cash, how we plan the provision of critical infrastructure with private participation, so that a day after the storm part of Latvia would not still be without electricity and communications. Politics is about how far the state interferes in private business and intends to buy outdated companies that are unable to provide communications. Don't be indifferent. Go to the elections on October 3 and vote so that your vote has meaning.
We in Latvia have the lowest electricity consumption per connection in the whole 🇪🇺, which means very expensive infrastructure per number of inhabitants. Switching to underground lines is a huge cost that will not be affordable for users. That is achievable if we doubled consumption per connection (which is achievable if we made strategic political decisions).
From@VisockisJuris@AndrisKulbergs Why doesn't ST massively replace overhead lines with cables? Because profits have to be paid into the budget and there is no money? If there were cables, then, after repairing 5 damaged substations, electricity would be restored. Now, in addition to substations, every overhead line to every village through forests must also be repaired. Not smart.

From@Jauna_Vienotiba🇺🇦 Today Ukraine marks its Independence Day - already the fifth time under conditions of full-scale war. For more than four years, Ukrainians prove every day that independence is not just a word in the constitution or a flag above state institutions. It is the readiness to defend one's land, one's language, one's democracy, and the right to decide the future of one's own country. Today Ukraine's fight is also a fight for European security and the principle that borders cannot be changed by force. The European Union has repeatedly affirmed unwavering support for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as a just and lasting peace. Latvia knows what it means to win, regain, and protect its independence. That is why our place is and will be alongside Ukraine - until its victory and a just peace in a free, sovereign, and European Ukraine. Happy Independence Day, Ukraine! 🇺🇦

@Nata66910945 if there are no state-managed gas stations, then the state's duty is to impose a rule on private gas stations that in case of storms and war they must be equipped with autonomous generators. Yes, that is politicians' responsibility 1000%
From@Nata66910945@AlvisHermanis1 Look more positively. Those who have not suffered damage also have the opportunity to imagine what would happen if we lost electricity, water without a storm. Are we ready for those 72 hours and maybe longer? We were warned, but is it the first time. The merchant is responsible for gas stations, not Kulbergs.

Last week's storm highlighted serious weaknesses in crisis prevention in Latvia. Ministries, as well as involved institutions and the Crisis Management Center, must submit proposals to the government by mid-September on how to improve the overall system's work in crisis situations.
Fact check. Requirement to grant Latvia a €7 billion EU grant is still just an idea
Regarding responsibility, I observe one thing that is visible in social media posts. Now the nifnufi are looking for those responsible. The same carefree nifnufi are now looking for an excuse for their own carelessness. And what do you think? Found! Responsibility must be shifted onto private individuals. Why didn't you, you scum, put a generator on your pepper stand? As if the stand owner had an obligation to sell something according to a political schedule, even during a storm🤡
From@ribentrops@guntarsv Libertarianism provides a very simple solution: each piglet is the blacksmith of his own happiness. If you built from straw and the wind blew it away, that's your choice and your responsibility. Why should Naf with his brick house have to invest to save Nif and Nuf from their own life choices?😃
