In Latvia, the average healthy life expectancy is only 52.5 years (for men even 51 years), which is about 13 years earlier than the current retirement age. This means that a large part of the population is unable to work fully long before reaching retirement age - this represents significant losses for Latvia's labor market and economy.
Jānis Hermanis and Daiga Behmane on the impact of health on work capacity. By organizing the healthcare system and placing greater emphasis on preventive medicine, both the healthy life expectancy of the population and the age at which one can still contribute to the national economy will improve. https://t.co/lmDvPI8fun
It was a great pleasure today in Jaunjelgava to meet old comrades from the @Jauna_Vienotiba ranks :) Defying the announced storm whirlwinds and rain showers, the Zemgale team had been driving around Aizkraukle municipality all day to meet with residents. Closer to the evening – also to us! https://t.co/FMlQg5Eep1
Why do you call people sent by Lukashenko's KGB 'immigrants'? They are the same kind of invaders as Putin's 'little green men' in Crimea in 2014. The Lukashenko regime deliberately organizes attacks on our state borders. And that is exactly how it should be reacted to – as an attack on the Republic of Latvia. Lukashenko is deliberately provoking a conflict with NATO and the EU.
🎙️ Great news - the first episode of the podcast “The Unifying Element” is out! 🗣️ In the first episode we talk with Beata Jonite - head of the Advocacy Unit at Centre MARTA and a Saeima deputy candidate for “New Unity”. https://t.co/F7D5VHQIdg
The Russian caricaturist Simon Skrepetski, 45, was mysteriously assassinated with five bullets in the middle of the street. The artist was known for his satirical drawings mocking Putin and his virilist policy
On the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Latvia's independence, Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže met with Park Deok-heum, Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, to discuss ways to develop bilateral relations.
Another Russian drone crossing into Moldovan airspace is not an isolated incident. Moldova condemns this latest violation, following Russia’s overnight attacks on Ukraine - yet another attack in Russia’s ongoing campaign of terror against the Ukrainian people.
This mechanical increase of government and Saeima deputies' salaries must be frozen; there can be no talk of a rise when the budget lacks funds. There is no room for discussion there https://t.co/RgJoyIp11T
@AndrisKulbergs Absolutely right!👍 We just need to talk about it publicly and loudly in all EU and NATO institutions, including communication with the Trump administration - no need to be shy!
The Prime Minister and the President are trying to screw you with the fairy tale that freely accessible declarations of officials create a risk. But do the personally identifiable data freely accessible in UR databases, Latvijas Vēstnesis, or the KNAB donor database not create a risk? They are lying to you, because the primary goal is to hide officials' data, since they feel that public dissatisfaction with corruption and the inaction and irresponsibility of state officials is growing, and so is knowledge and interest in monitoring officials more, because people are fed up that among these people there are so many scumbags, while all sorts of KNABs are completely useless. An informed public is dangerous to these cretins, so if Kulbergs pushes this through, it is only done to keep us in darkness and ignorance about the loudest squeals of the most equal pigs. I urge you not to vote for Apvienotais Saraksts. Their interests are not the people's interests, but the interests of a narrow caste.
Maybe you should look into what I wrote. “202 million + there is also various ‘economic activity’ and ‘other income’. Here is an example of why NGOs should also be assessed in the other two categories. For example, the association ‘Women for Safety’. According to Lursoft data, in 2025 it has not received any grants or donations. So this association is not among those 202 million euros. But from the State Treasury payment data it is clear that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has paid 21,826 euros to this association and it was recorded under budget code ‘2231 – Expenditures for the implementation of public activities of the institution’. So it is for something that the association itself recorded as ‘other income’ or ‘economic activity’. I tried to find a corresponding procurement, but did not find it anywhere. It remains to conclude that such ‘cooperation’ is simply arranged. Why exactly this association, not another? Would there be no more bidders if a procurement were held, or what? Now let's look at the association's officials: 1) Inna Šteinbuka, Chair of the Fiscal Discipline Council; 2) Elīna Egle-Ločmele, head of the ‘Latvian Security and Defence Industries Federation’, former advisor to President Bērziņš; 3) Gunda Reire, current head of the President's Chancellery and former wife of Jānis Reirs; 4) Sigita Struberga... There is more to continue. A whole mysterious industry has been created where nothing is donated or granted, but simply something is paid without any competitions, and it does not appear in any statistics/data. Adding up all such cases together, the 277 million IT procurement sum will be smaller than that for NGOs.
Seeing how actively things are currently happening under the leadership of the current interior minister @janisdombrava, the question arises - have we had interior ministers before? Apparently only prototypes, because none of Dombrava's predecessors has accomplished anything.
🔥 Latvian children will NOT be a testing ground for left-liberal ideological experiments, which from Europe are presented as the only 'correct' understanding of society and human rights. School must first of all give children knowledge, develop critical thinking and ensure a safe environment, not impose political or ideological views about rainbow manifestations❗️ AINĀRS ŠLESERS
One thing outside the ASL programme that I promise and keep is not to torment people with AI-generated texts. As for understanding European security, first of all one must confront neo-Marxism, which after World War II and the 1968 student 'revolutions' loaded Europe with an inadequate sense of guilt, started a fight against the 'patriarchy', patriotism and healthy nationalism. Europe's operating system is not adequate for 21st-century war threats, because everything still revolves around the idea that patriotism = Nazism (never mind that Germany was defeated by British, French, Polish, Czech and other patriots) and leads to 1 September 1939, while unlimited acceptance of refugees and yielding to Russian imperialism is 'moral superiority'. To the average liberal Western European, a Russian is a misunderstood victim, but a Ukrainian nationalist who can defend his homeland with a weapon is a potential threat, see the vatnik Ragozin's info-op targeted directly at a Western audience. That is why the British fleet currently has more admirals than warships, Germans cannot turn their industrial potential into military power, and Eastern Europeans hope that Western Europeans will understand the importance of a secure EU border. These are not good news - one must confront an entire worldview and the illusions of several European generations about living in a candy world with pink unicorns, rather than a world with Putin with the mentality of an 18th-century Russian imperialist and a 1930s Chekist, or with Islamists with their medieval ideology, which can be stopped only by a healthy identity, self-respect and strength.
Five EU countries—Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Denmark, Greece—will go to the African country Rwanda next week to try to reach an agreement (by the end of the year) on establishing so-called 'return hubs' there—places where rejected asylum seekers could be deported. It should be noted that already in 2022 the UK had concluded such an agreement, but their courts stopped it, because 'asylum seekers might not receive sufficient protection there and could be deported to their home country' (wtf?). There are also doubts about this five-country plan, because EU courts could ban it. It is the height of absurdity that a person whose application has been rejected in country X, and therefore has no legal basis to be in the EU, cannot be deported because the court does not allow it.
