@Elina_Treija Of course, I agree, we will do that in parallel. But to bring clarity and so that nothing slips past us, the fastest is freezing.

Absurd these populist stunts every year before the budget generously announce that we will freeze something for ourselves. The law on remuneration of officials and employees of state and municipal institutions, coefficients and calculation of base monthly salary must be changed https://t.co/LLPm46icUX

@djjapanis Exactly to the point, the prime minister is spouting devastating nonsense! Again - Europe protects Latvia, not Latvia protects Europe. Europe has always managed without Latvia and can continue to do so. Latvia cannot manage without Europe.

@JurgisLiepnieks This attack on Kulbergs looks a bit uncool. In essence, the prime minister hasn't said anything wrong, and the fact that additional funds are being requested in Europe for strengthening the border is hardly reprehensible or wrong. Nobody is getting upset about increasing support for Latvian agriculture.

This mechanical increase of government and Saeima deputies' salaries must be frozen; there can be no talk of a rise when the budget lacks funds. There is no room for discussion there https://t.co/RgJoyIp11T

My deepest condolences to @kajakallas with passing of her father. A great Estonian and European, his contribution to Estonia’s return on international stage was immense, as was his commitment to a free and strong Europe. https://t.co/Nir7uh75NR

@kukseriks At the moment nothing depends on the government anymore. Regardless of who flies where and what anyone thinks about it.

@guntarsv Looking at it from all sides, we need to get rid of airBaltic as soon as possible. The place won't stay empty, tourists will fly in with other airlines. Better a shitty end than shit without end. Right now that company is needed only by its board and council and, it is not excluded, by some cardinal...

One thing outside the ASL programme that I promise and keep is not to torment people with AI-generated texts. As for understanding European security, first of all one must confront neo-Marxism, which after World War II and the 1968 student 'revolutions' loaded Europe with an inadequate sense of guilt, started a fight against the 'patriarchy', patriotism and healthy nationalism. Europe's operating system is not adequate for 21st-century war threats, because everything still revolves around the idea that patriotism = Nazism (never mind that Germany was defeated by British, French, Polish, Czech and other patriots) and leads to 1 September 1939, while unlimited acceptance of refugees and yielding to Russian imperialism is 'moral superiority'. To the average liberal Western European, a Russian is a misunderstood victim, but a Ukrainian nationalist who can defend his homeland with a weapon is a potential threat, see the vatnik Ragozin's info-op targeted directly at a Western audience. That is why the British fleet currently has more admirals than warships, Germans cannot turn their industrial potential into military power, and Eastern Europeans hope that Western Europeans will understand the importance of a secure EU border. These are not good news - one must confront an entire worldview and the illusions of several European generations about living in a candy world with pink unicorns, rather than a world with Putin with the mentality of an 18th-century Russian imperialist and a 1930s Chekist, or with Islamists with their medieval ideology, which can be stopped only by a healthy identity, self-respect and strength.

🇱🇻 Latvia is currently paying for security from which all of Europe benefits. However, the bill remains largely with us. From 2027, Latvia will spend at least 5% of GDP on defense. We are strengthening the EU and NATO external border with the aggressor state. This border is not only Latvia's border—it is Europe's security border. But the current system is unfair. ➖️ Latvia borrows money to build fortifications and strengthen the eastern border. ➖️ Due to border-area risk, we pay higher interest on this debt. ➖️ Due to geopolitical risk, Latvia also loses investments and tourists. ➖️ At the same time, we buy billions worth of armaments and military equipment mainly from 🇩🇪 Germany, 🇫🇷 France, 🇸🇪 Sweden, 🇳🇱 the Netherlands, 🇪🇸 Spain and other countries. So Latvia takes on the debt and risk, while our defense spending simultaneously warms Western European economies. And all this is done to protect not only Riga or Daugavpils. Deterrence at Latvia's border also makes Berlin, Munich, Paris and Amsterdam safer. Therefore, the 7 billion euros Latvia is asking for is not “extra money for Latvia.” It is part of the cost of protecting Europe's common border. In seven years, that would be only about 0.4% of the nearly 2 trillion euro EU budget. For 449 million Europeans—about 2.23 euros per person per year. One coffee. For Latvia's inhabitants—about 540 euros per year. This difference very clearly shows the problem. Latvia will defend its border in any case. The question is—will all of Europe pay for Europe's common security, or will we leave a disproportionately large share of the bill to countries that happen geographically to be next to the aggressor's border? We are not asking for solidarity just for the sake of solidarity. We are offering the most effective European security investment—investing money where the real threat is. 🇪🇺 Europe's eastern border is common. The bill for its defense must also be common. https://t.co/oyE1yMcnR2

Dangerous argumentation for four reasons: 1. allies already “pay” with the presence of soldiers in Latvia (and thus potential involvement in war), and through that investing in Latvia's economy; 2. at a time when Southern Europe faces a migrant crisis, arguing that one external security is more important than another is not a solidary message; 3. Latvia currently invests more because in previous years it has not paid enough; 4. Yes, the European external border is common, so we must also seek common military solutions, not think that if we give extra money to Latvia, we will be able to do it WITHOUT allied involvement.

A little odd, don’t you think? As soon as Muslims started immigrating to Japan, its Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples started burning down, just like the churches in Europe.

Official Irish police training instructed Garda officers dealing with Nigerian families to approach the male head of the household first before addressing female family members. 🇪🇸 Spain's Defense Ministry confirms that 24 cases of scabies among Spanish troops in Ceuta are not related to the influx of illegal migrants. Spanish officials emphasize that scabies is a common infection in highly humid geographic regions like Ceuta, as Spanish military unions and police associations argue that it comes from substandard infrastructure and logistics, meaning dirty barracks.

15 innocent civilians were murdered in Kyiv, Ukraine yesterday in another vicious Russian ballistic missile and drone attack. Russia is a terrorist state. I don’t see how anyone can defend Russia. Russia is deliberately trying to kill civilians. And they are succeeding because Ukraine doesn’t have Patriot Missiles.

@UlvisSilins Once again - Europe protects us, not we Europe! Europe will survive without us, we without Europe, no! Spain helps us, not we Spain, as the prime minister extremely irresponsibly and incompetently claims!

I think we need to distinguish NATO and Europe. If Spain has no pragmatic reasons to be in NATO, then it should leave. Although there are dozens of pragmatic reasons, so probably not everything will happen. Speaking of the EU external border, which Kulbergs talks about, Spain would be a beneficiary of such a format. If of course they would guard something. And the EU MUST pay for guarding the external border.

@JurgisLiepnieks Kulbergs is not the brightest star in the sky. That much is clear. But we DO need to be more brazen in the European context.
