The atmosphere in the Saeima is finally approaching a fight. Who would win if they dropped their jackets and used their fists?

Edmunds Zivtiņš's speech in the Saeima, after which Edmunds Jurēvics and Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica called for Zivtiņš to be expelled from the Saeima session.

Deputies point to the unethical nature of Zivtiņš's statements, but do not expel him from the Saeima session.

Today in the Saeima we are considering the question of possible state involvement in stabilising airBaltic's finances. airBaltic is needed for Latvia. It is our connectivity with the world, jobs, tourism, exports and the opportunity for Latvian entrepreneurs to be in international markets. At the same time, the state cannot be the sole financier. The new plan also envisages private investor participation, a more efficient fleet, debt reduction and Riga as airBaltic's main hub. During the previous government's term, we changed the company's management and tasked it with developing a new, sustainable business plan. Today we continue this work. It is important for us to preserve an airline of strategic importance to Latvia, while protecting taxpayers' interests. 🇱🇻✈️

A horrific night of Russia’s latest barbaric missile attacks, killing innocent civilians in Kyiv. Educational and medical facilities have been hit. Ukraine urgently needs air defence and anti-missile support. Russian missile production ecosystem has to be sanctioned immediately. https://t.co/B5IZFK1GYY

A horrible and sleepless night in Kyiv. This was one of the most brutal Russian attacks to date, with ballistic missiles raining down on our capital one after another. At least 12 people were killed in Kyiv, and one more in the Kyiv region. A school, a children’s hospital, and residential buildings were severely damaged. Russia also attacked Chernihiv and Odesa regions. With such horrific war crimes Putin wants to demonstrate complete impunity. Each Russian ballistic missile is an act of barbarism. And each interceptor delivered to Ukraine is an act of humanity and saved human lives. We know partners who can deliver these interceptors, and we urge them once again to act without delay. Every delay is measured in human lives. We are informing all states and international organizations of the consequences of this attack, and we urge them to take immediate, concrete steps to intensify pressure on Russia and bolster support for Ukraine. I urge Ukrainians abroad to take action. We are calling on the Ukrainian World Congress, as well as all Ukrainian organizations and communities in key capitals and around the world, to raise their voices now. We call for three critical measures to protect human lives: - Deliver air defense: Transfer or sell additional interceptors and air defense systems to Ukraine. - Tighten sanctions: Increase sanctions pressure to cripple Russia’s ability to manufacture these instruments of terror. - Build defense capabilities: Partner with Ukraine to develop anti-ballistic capabilities.

VDD has detained three saboteurs! The State Security Service has done a very good job - a few days after the incident, three people have been detained in connection with the arson of a technology company in Estonia. Information obtained in the VDD investigation indicates that the malicious arson was carried out in Russia's interests. I am very satisfied with the work done by the VDD in investigating sabotage cases both in Latvia and in our neighboring countries, receiving positive assessment also from Estonian colleagues. Such cases confirm the close daily cooperation of the Baltic states' special services in the context of growing Russian threats. Our state's response to those who act against our national security in the Kremlin's interests is essential - we will come after you! The State Security Service (VDD) on August 16 this year initiated criminal proceedings on suspicion that three Latvian citizens on the night of August 15 committed malicious arson of the building of the defense technology company 'Milrem Robotics' in Estonia. Based on what was established in the investigation, VDD detained two suspected Latvian citizens on August 17, and one on August 18. All detained persons have been remanded in custody as a security measure. Additionally, on the mentioned dates, VDD conducted criminal procedural actions at seven objects related to the persons - residences and vehicles.

🇱🇻🇱🇹 It was an honor to host Lithuania's new Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius in the Saeima today. During the meeting we discussed issues of regional security, strengthening and defending the border, as well as opportunities for cooperation between our two countries in the defense industry, data security, and energy sectors.

@ESvirskis We have a Minister of Justice to whom this question should start being addressed @EdvardsSmiltens. Otherwise I'll become the problem dispatcher here.

Question to Andris Kulbergs @AndrisKulbergs: why don't we want to overhaul external oversight of the justice system along the Finnish model? Does Latvia have such a unique legal system that the principle of an independent Chancellor of Justice, which works in Finland, cannot even be seriously considered here? Or is the problem much simpler - the justice system itself has no interest in independent external control, while the rest of the public administration finds it convenient to keep a model where institutions largely audit themselves? If we publicly talk about the need to overhaul the justice system, then it is time to say exactly how we will do it.

🏛️ The President should consider pardoning Raimonds Skuruls. In 2018, he discovered a vulnerability in the CSDD system and was convicted of extortion. Given the recent CSDD security incidents, a pardon would be cool PR and fair. ✅ ☮️ 🇱🇻 MMN
