In Odesa, the war can disappear for hours, dissolving into the music, sea air and champagne fizz of a summer eve. And it can come roaring back with a massive Russian attack like the one I witnessed on Saturday. My @FT dispatch from the Black Sea port city https://t.co/qx6hvp6IAh

@kruuna Probably a register of socially disadvantaged clients should be introduced, who would apply in a tender process for electricity generated by the municipality.

@martinsstals Is that meant for social housing?

If Jelgava City Hospital did not provide services, then the state would not pay. Now the talk is about reducing quotas for regional hospitals and increasing quotas for Riga, so that the huge investments there pay off. About schools. Over 100 schools have already been liquidated or reorganized. Do you know what happens to a village where a secondary school is liquidated? On the other hand, the savings from liquidating a secondary school are about €150K per year - roughly the cost of one parliamentary secretary. So I would start by reducing salaries for those job categories whose salaries were politically increased above all others in the state administration. The austerity regime must apply to all state-owned companies and institutions. No bonuses for ordinary daily work - only for those who truly have ability, talent, and productivity. The manager is responsible for wastefulness. If someone does not do their job, he/she is dismissed.

@martinsstals What would you do differently? Local Jelgava residents don't go to Jelgava hospital, they go to Riga. Even if there is a specialist, the attitude at the hospital has always been terrible towards patients. Do we also keep schools with 1 student open? I'm not defending anyone, but sometimes you have to turn on 'common sense'.

🇱🇻 Latvia stands with 🇯🇵 Japan in its concern over recent developments concerning Etorofu Island and intensified Russian military activity in the region. Actions that heighten tensions undermine regional security and stability. International law and the peaceful resolution of disputes must be respected. Developments in Euroatlantic, the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific theatres remind us that our security is increasingly interconnected.

The Israeli authorities' decision to extend the mandates of the EU’s two CSDP missions in Rafah and the West Bank until the end of June 2027 is an important step after months of diplomatic negotiations. I thank the EEAS and involved Member States for their determined work in securing these extensions. The missions have a clear purpose: to help make crossings safer and more effective, support Palestinian police, and contribute to stability in the region. Our CSDP missions continue to work with all interlocutors to fulfil their mandates. They respond to concrete needs on the Palestinian side and remain an important part of the EU’s engagement on the ground. The EU will continue to support the Gaza Peace Plan, endorsed by the UN Security Council Resolution 2803.

@jelgavapatriots In LPS we are currently preparing an opinion.

@martinsstals if it still goes through TAP, in principle you can trigger disagreement through LPS, which has a loud voice in such matters, but then again the combination of municipal non-cooperation and individual dislikes will work

Sometimes a sharp discussion about airBaltic with @Briskens @LapinsGirts at @RitumsRozenberg. @jelgavapatriots Simply an obligation has been imposed on the energy community to contribute 10% of its generated electricity to some vulnerable social groups. I don't even know which facet of absurdity to choose to write my criticism of such an idea.

@martinsstals who will pay for it? KEM? Have they completely lost their minds?
