We received an invitation to Gorod.lv's pre-election debate, whose main language is Russian... Of course, we declined. But it will be interesting to see which parties in 2026 will still choose to speak in the Russian state language during pre-election debates.

Jānis Hermanis and Daiga Behmane about the healthcare system. Latvia's healthcare system is skewed - even in life-threatening matters, help is fastest received by patients who can afford it. This is an example that clearly illustrates how the state budget is poorly redistributed. https://t.co/6DEltwZTtn

🔴 Russian forces attacked a Guinea-Bissau-flagged merchant ship loaded with Ukrainian wheat in the Black Sea. The strike killed one Ukrainian citizen and injured three others, setting off a fire on board as Ukraine condemned the targeting of civilian shipping.

💬 “Within the European Union and NATO, Ukraine 🇺🇦 has no closer ally and friend than Latvia 🇱🇻,” said the Foreign Minister. From 4 to 5 August, Foreign Minister @Braze_Baiba visited Odesa and Kyiv on a working visit to Ukraine, where she met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and other officials, and also addressed ambassadors at Ukraine’s annual ambassadors’ conference. During the visit, the Minister reaffirmed Latvia’s unwavering support for Ukraine and stressed that the consequences of Russia’s aggression extend far beyond Europe’s borders. 💬 “This is an attack on African and Asian countries and the global food supply system,” said B. Braže, emphasising the impact of Russia’s Black Sea export blockade on global food security. In Odesa and Kyiv, the Minister discussed the security situation, support for Ukraine’s defence and Latvia’s practical assistance, including strengthening the energy sector ahead of the coming winter. 💬 “With its combat experience, innovation and technology, Ukraine strengthens the security of NATO and the entire Euro-Atlantic area,” stressed B. Braže. 🔗 More: https://t.co/5CMt4efqUb Flick albums: https://t.co/0O6MVl52qT

Life expectancy of newborns 👶 in EU countries 🇪🇺 (from @EU_Eurostat data) In Latvia 🇱🇻 it was on average (both sexes combined) 76.4 years in 2024, i.e., the 2nd lowest indicator in the European Union 🇪🇺. In Latvia 🇱🇻 for men 🚹 it was 71.4 years in 2024, i.e., the very lowest indicator in the EU 🇪🇺. In Latvia 🇱🇻 for women 🚺 it was 81.2 years in 2024, i.e., the 4th lowest indicator in the EU 🇪🇺. The average life expectancy of newborns is the number of years that those born in the respective year would live on average if the mortality rate at each age remained the same as in the year of birth throughout their future lives.

@maijaroze_ @DagnisIsaks In my opinion, @DagnisIsaks asked normally, without particular hostility.

@DagnisIsaks Did you want to present @J_Hermanis's data compilations as your own, since you don't like his party's logo in them? What prevents you from making your own compilations if you don't like Hermanis's party logo? Open data is publicly available.

Distribution of students in Latvia 🇱🇻 by higher education program groups (from @EU_Eurostat data). Relatively large share of students in the program group 'Business, administration and law' 🛒💶🧑‍⚖️ (25%; 5th highest among EU 🇪🇺 countries). Relatively low share in 'Natural sciences, mathematics and statistics 🧑‍🔬🧪🧮📊' (only 2.5%, the lowest among all EU 🇪🇺 countries).

I understand. For my part, I am sometimes puzzled when I see my images circulating without attribution, especially from educated people. Especially during the pre-election period, if I have invested my time, I do not want these images used without any attribution, including by other political forces that receive state funding.

Participation in the political process is certainly commendable, but somehow publishing statistical data with party symbolism still puzzles me. Maybe it's just my cockroaches :( https://t.co/rCdT7qvRCx

The Livs are not just a part of our history – they are the indigenous people of Latvia and one of the founding nations of our state. Therefore, our duty is not only to preserve the Livonian language and culture, but also to strengthen the people who care for their future every day. Together with the University of Latvia's Livonian Institute and Valts Ernštreits, we will create an annual award for special contribution to the development of the Livonian community, strengthening the Livonian language, culture, and identity. This award will be gratitude to people and works that, often without broad public attention, help preserve and develop an integral part of Latvia's identity. Latvia is the only homeland of the Livs. We have a duty to ensure that the Livonian language, culture, and traditions are not only preserved, but also continue to live and develop for future generations.

‼️ Do not spread complete nonsense. The Brasa prison is closed. And it is no longer a prison. The question on the agenda right now is what to do with this territory! Most of the buildings are demolishable and the place is excellent for creating important and significant buildings and services for the public in the future.

Latvia is not the first country that wants to strengthen the principle “an animal is not a thing”. Switzerland did it already in 2003. We too must acknowledge that in civil legal relations this concerns a sentient being, not property with a market price. I recommend reading: https://t.co/04BrOopCs7
