As Chair of the Saeima European Affairs Committee, together with parliamentarians from the Baltic states, Poland, and other European countries, I have signed a joint call to very responsibly assess the lifting of sanctions on persons who have been associated with the Russian regime and its aggression against Ukraine. Excluding such persons from the EU sanctions list creates a dangerous precedent and could weaken Europe's common sanctions policy at a time when Russia's aggression in Ukraine continues. Latvia has already acted by applying national sanctions. We also call on other European countries to follow Latvia's example and not allow pressure on the Russian regime and its supporters to be reduced. 🇱🇻🇺🇦🇪🇺 More: https://t.co/WYrTw4wd3I

Latvia must not be flooded with cheap foreign labor; we reject the criticism from business organizations. We have heard the concerns of businesses, but Latvia's economic development cannot in the long term be based on the ever-increasing import of labor from third countries. Employers, when planning business development and labor needs, must reconsider their business directions so that business operations are not based on attracting labor from third-country nationals. It is the state's duty to determine how much immigration Latvia can accept and control. Economic interests must be assessed together with national security, social cohesion, and the capacity of internal affairs services. Responding to objections raised by the Foreign Investors Council in Latvia (FICIL), the Confederation of Latvian Employers (LDDK), and the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LTRK) to the proposal to set quotas for employing third-country nationals, Interior Minister Jānis Dombrava rejects the criticism and emphasizes that Latvia's economic development must not be based on the ever-increasing import of cheap labor from third countries. The Ministry of the Interior has submitted to the TAP portal a draft Cabinet regulation based on the Immigration Law provision and the comprehensive immigration restriction plan approved by the government this week, providing for quotas for foreigners entitled to employment in Latvia. The Ministry of the Interior has developed the regulation and initially proposes setting the quota at 2% of Latvia's population, equivalent to this year's level. The quota will later be reviewed based on opinions from competent authorities, taking into account national security risks and the demographic situation. In the comprehensive immigration restriction plan approved by the government, the quota system is one instrument alongside other measures to strengthen control of legal and illegal migration. The Ministry of the Interior continues work on implementing the measures provided for in the comprehensive immigration restriction plan and developing the necessary regulation.

@VilnisKirsis @Olafs_Pulks @RigasDome @Jauna_Vienotiba Great work, I use this route almost every day both by car and by bike👍

The Zemitāni overpass and the mobility point at the station have been officially opened! After major repairs, the overpass is safer and more convenient for all road users. Together with the mobility point, it will form a transport hub where it will be easier for Riga residents to transfer from one mode of transport to another! https://t.co/0A4Di2IPkD

@EvikaSilina For the fact that you were not afraid to publicly affirm your faith in these debates, hats off! I wish more politicians were so brave in this regard.

In the LTV Vidzeme debates, the question of Christian values also came up. For me, faith first means loving your neighbor, treating a person with respect and not judging them just because they are different. Christian values cannot be invoked only when it is politically convenient to turn against people who seem wrong to you. Quite the opposite – they call for compassion, respect and responsibility for another person.

Greece is and was in a different category. During Greece's rapid economic growth boom, French and German banks had purchased bonds for about 125 billion USD. A full Greek default would mean a possible collapse of the Eurozone. And the reaction to the default on the unpaid 1.6 billion was pragmatic, but Greece had to close banks and allow people to withdraw only a certain amount of money.

@E_Jans @UldisVarnevichs @austsaule There are options. The Greek path. Declare default. Brussels will write off the debts.

🛡️ NEW UNITY has turned to the Prosecutor General's Office calling for an assessment of the activities of the party "Sovereign Power" and the legality of its funding. Serious reports have emerged in recent days. Jūlija Stepaņenko has received gifts worth almost €420,000 from her father Sergejs Fedotovs, who lives in Russia. Fedotovs, in turn, confirmed to LTV that his company, as a subcontractor, produced anti-tank obstacles for Russia's needs. Viktor Bout, convicted in the US for arms trafficking, has also visited his company. At the same time, the "Sovereign Power" programme provides for suspending Latvia's support for Ukraine, reducing defence funding and abolishing the national defence service. These circumstances raise questions that law enforcement authorities must examine. Therefore, we call on the Prosecutor General's Office to assess whether the party's activities show direct or indirect support for the aggressor state or justification of aggression, and to act as provided by law in the event of violations. 🇱🇻 There is no place for illegal Russian influence in Latvian politics.

The local elite, unfortunately, has for years supported Jūlija Stepaņenko's political career, but now expresses surprise at how she managed to gain such popularity. Stepaņenko (then SC/GKR) entered Latvian politics by a very clear path. She would have remained on the political periphery if in 2015 she had not found support in the National Alliance and other mainstream parties for her “virtue” initiatives in the Saeima. After that, Ainārs Šlesers took Stepaņenko under his wing, putting her forward as a candidate for the office of President. Even then there were many who warned that the ideology preached by Stepaņenko was like something from the Kremlin's playbook. But in vain. And here we are. Hopefully this time the services will do their job.

@GintsVilgerts LSM mentions in one email the “SKDS ratings published on 28 September.” So LSM plans to publish the ratings on the day voting has already begun. https://t.co/TQLLgb0n7C

If LSM published the ratings a week before election day in 2022, then the ratings should be out today. If there are no ratings today, then it seems someone is trying very hard for LSM to nevertheless interfere in the election outcome? Please confirm the opposite to dispel concerns that something is happening in a gray area and behind closed doors @lsmlv @Lato_Lapsa @KNL_LTV1
