Does anyone really think that even half of these numbers can fit into the head of the progressive Koķello? https://t.co/79T5uCkaN4

On August 28, a meeting took place between the Riga municipality's Department of External Space and Mobility and the designers with representatives of the neighbourhood associations of Torņakalns, Bieriņi and Atgāzene about the progress of the design of the Altonava Street overpass. The designers have planned that the width of the roadway of the new bridge will practically not increase - it will be 6 metres, while the pedestrian sidewalks will each be 2 metres wide without raised curbs. Today I measured the width of the bridge - the roadway is 5.9 metres wide, while each sidewalk, including the 20 cm wide raised concrete curb, is 1.38 metres wide. In 1910, when the old bridge was built, it was mainly horse-drawn carriages that crossed it, and such a roadway width was quite sufficient. Later, when the bridge was still allowed to be used, whenever a Riga Satiksme route bus came from the opposite direction, it drove with its left wheels over the centre line of the carriageway, so I always stopped my car and waited for it to get off the bridge. Unfortunately, I could not find a photo showing two Riga Satiksme buses meeting at the top of the overpass and blocking traffic. Such incidents on the overpass have occurred several times. The width of a Solaris Urbino 18 bus is 2.55 metres, not counting the mirrors. Subtracting two bus widths of 2.55 metres from the bridge width of 5.9 m leaves 0.8 metres. From 0.8, subtracting two mirror widths of 0.2 x 2 leaves 0.4 metres, which must be divided by 3 (the number of gaps: bus-bus and bus-sidewalk edge). That leaves 13 centimetres. Buses may be slightly angled, which further complicates and makes it impossible for them to pass. Bus drivers cannot avoid such blocking of the overpass if they have already started to drive onto it and meet in the middle. Are we really going to build, for the next 100 years, an overpass that will be a bottleneck where traffic jams form? The roadway of the overpass could be widened to 7 metres, slightly increasing its external width. If the external width cannot be increased that much, then both sidewalks could be made slightly narrower. The Riga City Council's External Space and Mobility Committee, chaired by Marta Kotello, is responsible for the construction of the Altonava Street overpass.

New reality for Kyiv & Kyiv region–almost constant air raid alerts, so that no life could be carried on; so that businesses would not be able to function; so that terror would brake the resolve of the nation. Aggressor still doesn't get it. It only provokes more willpower. https://t.co/2BNVWrVsLB

I had a call with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. I briefed my colleague on the latest developments on the battlefield and Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to achieve a lasting and comprehensive peace. We focused in particular on the security situation in the Black Sea and its implications for freedom of navigation and global food security. Ukraine remains committed to ensuring reliable food supplies to countries around the world. We also exchanged views on the broader regional situation and developments in the Middle East. We agreed on the importance of maintaining our dialogue and staying in contact.

It doesn't look like anyone in those photos expressed a desire to vote for JV. Especially not the Dalmatian. https://t.co/UO7pYFvZho

We paid tribute to fallen Ukrainian warriors. Every day of free life on Ukrainian soil has been won by our defenders – the people who stood up to protect their nation, their right to be free, and gave their lives for it. We preserve the memory of every name, every story, every hero who is now part of the great history of our state. We honor the sacrifice of every one of them. Eternal memory to the fallen warriors. Eternal gratitude.

Our long-range responses work at different distances and in different domains, but always justly and in a way that deprives Russia of the resources to wage its vicious war. Overnight, the Defense Forces of Ukraine struck sites used for the storage, preparation, and launch of attack drones in the Oryol and Rostov regions. There were strikes on a military airfield in Yeysk and in the Black Sea. Our warriors also imposed long-range sanctions on an oil refinery in the Leningrad region that generates millions of dollars every month for Russia’s war budget. Effective long-range work over the course of this week has also been confirmed, including against facilities in Bashkortostan and the Arkhangelsk region. Every day, Russia must feel that the war is returning to where it came from. And it is important that our long-range impact be complemented by new sanctions measures from our partners against Russia’s military infrastructure. The vast majority of the weapons the aggressor uses to terrorize Ukrainian cities and communities simply cannot function without thousands upon thousands of foreign components, chemicals, and machine tools. We constantly provide our partners with details of Russia’s sanctions-evasion schemes. I am grateful to everyone who helps shut them down.

Iceland's residents have chosen not to resume talks on joining the European Union. This democratic decision must be respected. The vote was very close, and it shows that the question of Iceland's place in Europe has not disappeared. The discussion will continue on security, economic stability, fisheries, natural resources, and Iceland's ability to influence European decisions. The European Union must also draw conclusions from this vote. Enlargement cannot be just a geopolitical slogan. Europe must be able to clearly show how membership strengthens countries' security, economy, and ability to defend their interests. Work must continue for a united and stronger Europe!
