I have not supported and do not support state funding intended for the Bridge federation. I want to remind that the aim of the government decision of 16 June was to support the hosting of international championships, not to allocate funding to one specific sport. The aim of the Cabinet of Ministers' decision was to help Latvia attract and host international sports championships, not to cover expenses after the fact for events already held for one specific sport. At the Cabinet meeting, both in the protocol and in the audio recording, it was clearly explained that such funding could be allocated in an open competition with all sports federations participating - in the future, not for an already ongoing event.
I also have a specific question about the planned 14,000 euros for 'evaluation of competition results, as well as development of new, transparent and uniform criteria.' If this sum is needed to develop transparent and verifiable procurement criteria after the funding distribution, a legitimate question arises: on exactly what criteria were the 225,000 euros distributed this time? I believe that the Ministry of Education and Science must submit a calculation of this sum, the source of funding, and procurement documents, and must justify why this work cannot be done by officials of the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Economics, whom the Cabinet has already tasked with monitoring the competition results. I am not clear what the employees of the Ministry of Education and Science are doing, if an external evaluator needs to be hired for 14k EUR? This waste and the constant engagement of meaningless consultants must be stopped.
Prime Minister @AndrisKulbergs has requested @IZM_gov_lv to immediately check the legality of the international sports events competition and the allocation of funding to the Bridge federation. https://t.co/5lYYFBN5Uq
Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs (AS) has demanded that the Ministry of Education and Science immediately submit documents on the distribution of 225,000 euros of state funding for organizing international sports events and explain the allocation of 147,366 euros to the Latvian Bridge Federation, because both supported bridge championships had already ended before the competition was announced.
@NormundsKuplens Šuvajevs and his ilk told us loudly how the Spaniards were offended by our interior minister's letter. But they keep silent about the fact that the Estonians are outraged that we have built a big, expensive station, but not a single meter of rail has been laid on our side.
The formulations of the draft project prepared by the Ministry of Climate and Energy and now already withdrawn, which have caused ambiguities and interpretations, will be clarified while maintaining the main goal of the project — to ensure the protection of employees of critical service providers in crisis situations, the Minister of Climate and Energy Jānis Vitenbergs (NA) indicated on 'Rīta Panorāma'.
The Freedom Monument in Riga, unveiled in 1935 under the Shine like a star motto, was built entirely from citizen donations.
Flowers laid with FM @Braze_Baiba at the Freedom Monument, in memory of those who fell for Latvia’s independence.
Afterwards, a visit to the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia, which documents the years 1940 to 1991: two totalitarian regimes, the suffering they inflicted, and the resistance they never extinguished.
Romanians know this history from the inside. It is why our countries understand, without needing to explain it to one another, what is at stake today.

Reliable sources report that Transport Minister Rihards Kozlovskis has given his blessing for Lemberga, Martinsons and IT cartel candidates (Andris Liepiņš, Krišjānis Krūmiņš, Juris Kanelis) to join the RIX Airport board. Looks like in JV's pre-election hunger, security and state interests are out the window.💥
That is the reason why unfortunately neither @AlvisHermanis1 nor @mielavs60 will get into the Saeima. Because on issues important to people - migrants, AirBaltic, road conditions, attracting investment, security - they offer no solution. Only changing the electoral system. And only because in Ireland, a country friendly to Russia and hostile to Israel, that's how it is :) Well, which voter could possibly be interested in that? A pity, sensible people.
@AnsisPupols@Lato_Lapsa Isn't it time to change the electoral system? - The 5% barrier must not be the only issue we talk about, it is tearing apart the economic and security debate, Ansi.
Grateful to my Latvian counterpart @Braze_Baiba for the invitation to Riga, for the warm welcome & for the excellent political consultations we held today.
This is a milestone year for us: we mark 105 years since our two countries established diplomatic relations and 35 years since their restoration in 1991. With Romania’s first resident Ambassador in Riga and the premises of our Embassy inaugurated today, we are opening a new chapter in our bilateral ties.
Our trade has more than doubled since 2022, reaching a record €220 million last year. There is room for far more, particularly in investment, advanced technologies, cybersecurity, agriculture and energy.
As Eastern Flank Allies, 🇷🇴 and 🇱🇻 read the security environment in a similar way. Both our countries have faced intense drone incursions in recent months. These incursions are a reminder that Russia’s war generates risks far beyond Ukraine and that the answer lies in closer Allied coordination and stronger national and collective capabilities.
Romania contributed again this year to NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission, from April to July. Allied solidarity is more than a commitment: it is aircraft on alert over one another’s skies. I thanked Latvia for the solidarity it has consistently shown Romania after the drone incidents on our own territory.
We agreed to continue our support for Ukraine and for the Republic of Moldova, to advance EU enlargement, and to keep regional security and economic convergence at the centre of the next Multiannual Financial Framework.
Romania also fully supports Latvia’s priorities during its current mandate on the UN Security Council.
Paldies, Latvija! 🇷🇴🇱🇻
Listen, @SlesersAinars@LatvijaPirmaja@VentsAKrauklis and start to understand at least a little what the role of the Russian Federation's language is in Latvia. It also harms Latvia's Russians if it is used outside the private communication sphere. (Home, family, friends, etc.) #DeRussifyLatvia Russification is a crime!

That Slavs lived in Latvia's territory in ancient times is 100% fake news! Russian lies and manipulations to justify their aggression and claims against Baltic territories! https://t.co/xUTlhMavh5https://t.co/tfsu3eSWmI
Juris Pūce (@pucej): In Latvia, a system has developed where, to receive a quality healthcare service, you often need both connections and your own money. This is a deeply unjust model for everyone. 🎾 “Latvijas attīstībai” has a broad reform proposal in healthcare that will make the service accessible and quality for everyone!
The Foreign Ministry is locating Latvian travelers in Nepal affected by devastating floods. Since there is no contact with the region, obtaining information is very difficult, Foreign Minister @Braze_Baiba (JV) said on the program #Labrīt. Determining the situation is complicated by the fact that travelers have not registered with the Consular Service. https://t.co/u1fuepdwgQ
Foreign Minister @Braze_Baiba:
💬 I received Romania's Foreign Minister Oana Coju on her first visit to Latvia 🇱🇻🇷🇴
Romania is our trusted ally. Together we are strengthening the defense of NATO's Eastern flank and investing in the development of counter-drone capabilities.
Our partnership becomes even closer as Romania opens an embassy in Riga.
