Political nursing home. That harshly Kulbergs publicly called the boards and councils of state-owned companies. But the Saeima has already quietly amended the law in the summer so that failed politicians could get into the management of state enterprises even faster. The restriction on a politician leading a state enterprise has been reduced from 24 to 12 months after leaving political office. The proposal for amendments for the 2nd reading was submitted by the Saeima deputies themselves. Who is preparing their next well-paid job this way? Listen, maybe there's no need to rush filling the vacant positions at CSDD, but wait until autumn. There will be many good candidates... https://t.co/tfgUJlygQE

35 years ago, Latvia🇱🇻 restored its independence de facto by adopting the Constitutional Law on the Statehood Status of the Republic of Latvia. Iceland🇮🇸 recognized it and restored diplomatic relations, followed by others. As early as 17.09.91, Latvia was admitted to the UN🇺🇳. Long may Latvia flourish🇱🇻!

Today in the Saeima we are considering the question of possible state involvement in stabilising airBaltic's finances. airBaltic is needed for Latvia. It is our connectivity with the world, jobs, tourism, exports and the opportunity for Latvian entrepreneurs to be in international markets. At the same time, the state cannot be the sole financier. The new plan also envisages private investor participation, a more efficient fleet, debt reduction and Riga as airBaltic's main hub. During the previous government's term, we changed the company's management and tasked it with developing a new, sustainable business plan. Today we continue this work. It is important for us to preserve an airline of strategic importance to Latvia, while protecting taxpayers' interests. 🇱🇻✈️

The article is long, but in my opinion, it reads easily. You will learn how Feders wrote to me on Sunday evening that one client has 'one thing burning'. So here it is. :)) Actually, this is a very sad story. How @Berdigans is trying to convince the government to abandon 560,000,000 euros in investments so that 15 residents of Saka parish can look out the window more comfortably. All strategic plans, NAP, laws, EU, and everything else are ignored. The main thing is that the buddies' presence comes first! Even the Minister of Justice @EdvardsSmiltens admits: 'At present, it is very difficult for the state to say 'no' to a wind park developer, because a special legal framework was created for such projects and the so-called green corridor was granted. In fact, the developer has access to two green corridors – one at the Latvian Investment and Development Agency and the other set by special law.' And also, it turns out that the association also threatens the government with litigation... but no one asks to publish a press release about that – neither for free nor for money. https://t.co/nwSst3mcc6

During an in-depth inspection of the adjacent territory, border guards found a possible underground tunnel used by illegal migrants. Upon inspection, it was found that 20 meters from the state border, hidden under moss, there is an exit of the tunnel. 28 illegal migrants were prevented from illegally crossing the state border. Examination and photo documentation of the found tunnel continues.

Today's LTV Panorāma is a good example for students of what a politically engaged news segment looks like before elections. It shows the adoption of the Immigration Law in the Saeima. The central issue - debate over 'golden visas' in exchange for investment in real estate. The main characters opposing 'golden visas' are PRO and JV. NA is not mentioned at all. Even though NA spoke in the debates and for 10 years straight called on Vienotība to close this Šlesers program, and Vienotība stubbornly objected for 10 years. But LTV, of course, won't tell that, because it is a JV/PRO mouthpiece.

A huge wave of defense investment is beginning in Europe. Latvia's question is whether we will be able to turn it into a breakthrough for our economy as well? Latvia already spends and will continue to spend very large amounts on defense. Therefore, the discussion must be not only about what % of GDP we spend, but also how much of every euro spent on defense remains in the Latvian economy? The defense budget cannot be just an expenditure policy. It must also become a policy for Latvian industry, innovation, and exports. The goal should not be simply to produce in Latvia, but to create products that can compete internationally and are needed throughout NATO. Then external capital comes into Latvia, well-paid jobs are created, productivity, exports, and tax revenues grow. And we already have a foundation to build on. Drones, electronics, communications, cybersecurity, ammunition, autonomous systems, research. Also technologically intensive niches where Latvia already demonstrates excellence, such as photonics and optoelectronics. Therefore, the defense industry's desire to primarily develop high-tech capabilities in Latvia, as shown, for example, by Origin Robotics, is the right direction. Not to transfer Latvian taxpayers' money to foreign suppliers as quickly as possible, but to use part of these investments to create companies and technologies in Latvia that then compete on the world market. 5% for defense can be not only the price for our security and defense capabilities. It can be one of the biggest opportunities for Latvian industry development since the restoration of independence. https://t.co/aONtbalqyA

There is a book called “Why Nations Fail”. It proves that the reason why some countries are successful and others are not is not racial, religious, or geographical differences. The only reason - how politicians manage institutions. In Latvia, this most responsible task is traditionally entrusted to the unemployed and those who have achieved nothing in life and don't really know how to do anything themselves. Because that's the election system for Latvians - with parties. Then there's no point in complaining and no point in wondering about the result. I talk about this and everything else on tv24 with Armands Puče. (video in comments)

The law stipulates that deputies and a number of other state administration employees automatically have their salaries indexed (i.e. increased based on inflation) every year. Meanwhile, pensions are not automatically indexed — that requires a decision each time. We are changing the rules and will put an end to this. Currently, deputies' salaries are calculated by taking a statistically determined base monthly salary (which rises automatically with inflation) and multiplying it by a coefficient of 3.5. For holding higher office, the coefficient is larger. It is not bad that officials' salaries are not arbitrary but set by a general formula. What is bad is that, under this general formula, deputies, ministers and others are guaranteed that 1) inflation will not eat away their salaries, 2) while a small pension indexed by a special decision grows by cents in absolute numbers, deputies' salaries can automatically rise by several hundred every year. “We Change the Rules” will decouple the base monthly salary from a simple statistical calculation. Just like other budget increases, a specific base monthly salary value would have to be set by a separate amendment to the law each time it is to be changed. And, as with other draft laws — if it cannot be shown where the funds for it will be found in the budget, then there would be nothing!

That about the food is also in other countries. For example, in the UK, hot chicken is sold with VAT (because it is food as in a restaurant), but cold chicken is not subject to VAT (because it is food). And there are even lawsuits about this, a million-dollar industry for lawyers. And that is not nonsense, but a consequence of introducing different regulations for different groups, resulting in all sorts of oddities. About those cash registers, for instance. Well, they are needed everywhere, but there are exemptions for artisans. But a step left or right, and you still need a cash register. And it looks absurd.

@guntarsv @AndrisKulbergs Listen to a few minutes of an accountant's talk about absurdities in legislation - that's exactly why we have few small entrepreneurs. https://t.co/pnF2PmOFxm
