As the cost of living rises, the state's task is to protect residents, not to push them into debt. Repealing the ban on advertising quick loans is irresponsible. Such ads offer dangerous illusions of "quick solutions" to accumulated problems. @Progresivie opposed this decision, but the Saeima majority chose the opposite. https://t.co/dFs2qfewdD
Although the cool weather has returned outside the window for some time now, the deputies of the Šlesers faction got quite hot today at the Saeima session and were very offended that @irLV called them a pro-Kremlin political force. Maybe instead of hysterics you could explain why today you did not support restricting Russian imports, penalties for disrespect of the state language, and ensuring that Latvian radio frequencies no longer play Kremlin musical propagandists who are subject to EU sanctions? Instead, you raged on the Saeima rostrum in the style of Zhirinovsky and, tearing a magazine, lied that all people who know the Russian language are called Kremlinites.
From@maija_armanevaEveryone who knows Russian is a Kremlinist! ABSURD!!! https://t.co/C06wFN7KPp

@RicardsMiezitis Richard, welcome to the National Guard ranks, where I am together with @janisdombrava and we are heading out for a week to chase down migrants through the border forests. There won't be matcha lattes and other progressive niceties, just a heads-up. But reality will probably change your mind 🫡
From@RicardsMiezitisThat is the interior minister, who has gathered a handful of armed force representatives from the border guard, police, and also public media, and then walks around canteens, publicly intimidating and humiliating the immigrants working there. Where the hell are we going... https://t.co/hc7EdMikx5

From@janisdombravaToday in the Riga center area we organized a fairly large raid. In a few hours there have been arrests for theft and drug possession, fines for being intoxicated in a public place, problems with work permits and not knowing the state language, illegal immigrants have been detained. Everything is happening! We have problems with immigration control. Riga center is full of immigrants, but we need more border guards. The raid will continue. We will report on the results tomorrow.

From@AgneseKrastaToday the Saeima supported the amendments proposed by @Jauna_Vienotiba. A small but important step, continuing the work already done in this Saeima to strengthen and protect the state language. It is also a clear state position – the state language is important, it must be respected and used responsibly. https://t.co/v6W9NViHfg

A significant step has been taken towards safe education even in case of threat! ✅ @Jekaba11 has approved in the final reading amendments to the Education Law, so that every school is ready to act. https://t.co/MHX5IqhBRd
From@atis_svinkaIt is not right that @AndrisKulbergs casually comments on the possible repurchase of LMT and TET shares from Telia while clearly knowing that these are restricted-access (IP) documents. It is doubly bad that these comments are inaccurate and misleading. Viktors Valainis did not have a Cabinet of Ministers mandate to freely and independently decide on the transaction price – the process was completely different. The Minister of Economics had a mandate to co-sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU), in which the state, for specific reasons, was a co-signatory together with the state companies carrying out this transaction. This fact must not and cannot be presented as a bilateral agreement between Telia and the Latvian state. In this situation, the public needs clarity and truth – to the extent that commercial secrecy allows.

Today the Saeima supported in the second reading amendments that provide for restricting the possibility to use eParaksts and identity documents for people who evade participation in criminal proceedings and the execution of the security measure – detention.

From@AndrisKulbergsDay No. 39 (this time actually the right one – day 39 😊) in the prime minister's chair Early morning again. ➖I appeared on @ltvpanorama about NGOs, AirBaltic and the government's Action Plan. ➖🇱🇻 Meeting with the State Defence Corporation I met with the management of the State Defence Corporation about developing the military industry and attracting investors. Very good impression – a professional team and a strong leader, Ingrīda Ķirse. Main conclusions: - 🇫🇷 together with French partners, the project for the first 155 mm howitzer shell production plant is planned to start already in September; - the EIA process is still a major problem; - public consultations also cause problems; - everything is slowed down by Latvia's biggest chronic ailment – the inability to make decisions in a timely manner; - we agreed to fix these mistakes. ➖🇺🇦 Call with the new Ukrainian Prime Minister - Very good first conversation – an open discussion started from the very first minutes. - The new PM is in many ways similar to me – young, comes from the private sector and has led a large corporation. - We both agree that one of the main priorities is energy and security. - I said that we – the 🇱🇻 Baltic and 🇺🇦 Ukrainian PMs – are a new generation that will introduce modern changes in politics. - We agreed to take the next practical step in implementing the drone contract, which is necessary to open a military production facility in Latvia in cooperation with Latvia's military industry. - The Ukrainian PM especially highlighted President @Rinkevics' decision in 2021 to donate 🇺🇦 14 Javelin anti-tank missile launchers even before 🇷🇺 full-scale invasion. According to him, this decision helped defend Kyiv and significantly influenced the battles for Hostomel airport, disrupting Russia's airborne plans. - The PM sent special greetings to @poznaks and the Twitter convoy, who are known by the entire Ukrainian people, and the military is especially grateful for the donation of more than 8000 units of equipment to Ukraine – through Reinis, special thanks to all Latvian people. ➖🇱🇻 Weekly meeting with the President We discussed: - the President's returned Immigration Law – it must be improved so as not to jump from one ditch to another; - facts and statistics on the NGO sector – about 10% of organisations cast a shadow over the whole rest of the sector; - in July we will publish a publicly available data summary on NGOs; - the NATO summit in Ankara; - the government's Action Plan; - national security and the eastern border; - the AirBaltic situation. ➖🎥 NRA video interview We talked about how to become prime minister in three years :) ➖🇸🇪 Meeting with TELIA management Together with Economy Minister @ViktorsValainis I met with the chairman of the board of Swedish company TELIA and his team. I received the following explanation about the TET/LMT transaction: - TELIA has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the 🇱🇻 state on the sale of all its TET and LMT shares; - an agreement on the sale price has been reached with V.Valainis; - TELIA wants to close the deal by 31 July, but I pointed out that this is not a realistic deadline; - TELIA has no "red lines" or conditions about what happens to TET and LMT after the deal; - the main reason why TET and LMT have not been merged in the previous 12 years has been the companies' own historical unwillingness to merge; - I confirmed that the 🇱🇻 state is ready to move forward as soon as the Economy Minister submits to the government a clear proposal for a deal with a strategic investor that fully secures Latvia's state interests. Promise – already next week. ➖👏 Thanks for 47 years of work - I congratulated the long-serving State Chancellery employee Leontīne on her last working day before retiring. - She worked at the State Chancellery for 47 years – her entire working life in one workplace. She was in charge of Cabinet meetings and visitor control. - It was very interesting to hear her stories from the Godmanis government times. 😊 ➖🔒 5-hour National Security Council meeting at the President's residence Agenda: - NATO summit; - 🇧🇾 hybrid threat on the Belarusian border with an organised illegal migration flow – solutions presented by @RMelnis and @Dombrava; - security of electoral systems; - assessment of the LVM cyberattack and conclusions on how to strengthen the security of the entire state's critical IT infrastructure. ➖🇱🇻 Inspection of the eastern border Already this Friday and Saturday we are preparing for a special out-of-town session – together with @janisdombrava and R.Melnis we will inspect the entire 458 km long Latvian eastern border with 🇷🇺/🇧🇾. Again a late evening tonight. Solving national security issues requires a lot of energy. 😊

From@Jauna_Vienotiba🛡️ The Saeima has adopted amendments to the law that will allow Latvia to ban the import of certain goods from Russia and Belarus. Following the initiative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Unity, Baiba Braže, the Saeima today adopted in urgency amendments to the Law on Support for Ukrainian Civilians, delegating to the Cabinet of Ministers the authority to set a national import ban for goods that are currently not subject to European Union sanctions. 📚 This will apply to groups of goods such as books, newspapers, video games, sports equipment, toys, clothing and footwear originating from Russia or Belarus. 📉 Since 2022, imports from Russia and Belarus to Latvia have decreased by 91%, but certain groups of goods are still being imported. Last year, their imports reached 12.5 million euros. 🇱🇻 Reducing economic ties with aggressor states is a matter of Latvia's security. We continue to use all available tools to strengthen Latvia's security, protect our businesses and support Ukraine.
