“Just because it is written there does not mean that it all has to be spent,” asked whether the OECD research presentation event really requires spending 20 thousand euros, says Economics Minister Viktors Valainis (ZZS).
Even 5 million euros is money, a significant amount, answering the question of whether the criticized additional allocations of the previous government of 58 million euros could have been reduced not by 5, but by 15 or 20 million euros, says Juris Viļums from the United List.

Meanwhile, Andris Šuvajevs, a politician of the 'Progressives' now in opposition, expresses bewilderment that the coalition, which mostly consists of conservative parties, has already managed to support two fiscally 'costly' decisions – on extending the excise tax reduction and on base pensions.
Kulbergs hasn't even squeaked about the liquidation of the Climate Ministry, the shutting down of the SIF, halting the airBaltic subsidy, revising the Saeima election law, denouncing the Migration Pact, selling student visas, security checks of city mayors by security institutions, cancelling subsidies for electric car purchases, the ban on burning peat, etc. decisions initiated, supported and implemented by JV, PRO, ZZS. Why should he be considered a revolutionary? He now signs students' diplomas.
Latvian politics. Despair is rapidly turning into hysteria. “Dear people, listen! He is not the real revolutionary! I am, I am, dear people! He is a fake prime minister!” https://t.co/KxmmWtu74x
A constructive meeting with the new prime minister @AndrisKulbergs — many issues where our views align. Rīgas siltums needs a single owner — either the municipality (Riga proves it can do better) or the state, but the situation where neither side holds a majority in the company cannot continue. In recent days we also hear broad discussions about the new municipal equalization fund. I emphasized to the prime minister that Riga has no problem making contributions to the regions, but we must not do this at the expense of the capital and metropolis's economic development. There needs to be a proportionate solution that motivates municipalities to do more, rather than fight each other over one formula or another. Because at the end of the day — the bigger Riga's economy becomes, the more all of Latvia gains.

Upon taking office as Prime Minister, much has been promised. I will mention two things that @AndrisKulbergs said: 1) The warm-up period will be one day; 2) The fight against corruption. Andris's ability to act immediately in the case of the Ministry of Agriculture and LVM will show Kulberg's true desire to fight corruption (and the huge risks of being drawn into its grasp). You will ask - can the Prime Minister do anything? Yes, even immediately issue a prime ministerial resolution to the Minister of Agriculture to publish LVM financial documents and cash flows that would show the ways and extent of the Ministry of Agriculture's 'own pocket' management. Name all organizations and subordinate institutions that have fed from LVM's undisclosed and accumulated money. The task must be sufficiently broad and specific to expose the schemes practiced by ZZS to the public. Leaving everything as is, ZZS under the leadership of @uldisaugulis will continue to squander LVM and MoA finances.

🙌 LDDK Director General @KasparsGorkss met on 19 May with the presidential candidate for Prime Minister @AndrisKulbergs to discuss the priorities of a potential new government. 🗣️ “We wish Andris Kulbergs success in forming a new, capable government with support in the Saeima. The new government needs to agree on a short but achievable to-do list, and it can fully count on our support as social partners, because we understand what it means to take responsibility five months before elections. We expect a clear, decisive analysis from the new government of what is needed for our National Armed Forces so that in peacetime we do not live as in wartime. We have both security experts and funding. We must conclude what needs to change so that the life of a whole region is not constantly paralyzed and society is not in fear. That must be a priority for both the government and the armed forces,” said LDDK Director General Kaspars Gorkss. ✅ From the LDDK side, the position on the need to review state budget spending is supportable, and it is also necessary to strengthen the efficiency of public administration. We propose renewing the memorandum agreement signed by the three political forces forming the potential core of the government and will place at Andris Kulbergs' disposal the experience gathered in the 2026 budget review process.
:)) “Smiltēns also emphasised that the use of VIP services is not a matter of comfort, but a considered exception applied only in special circumstances, and that such decisions are made in cooperation with protocol and security services.” Source - https://t.co/BnzcBtl8zmhttps://t.co/CM3IJVbAHDhttps://t.co/jkjOsDpaUC
€35,554.37 - that's how much Latvia's Prime Minister spent on VIP lounge visits. For a few hours of comfortable waiting - almost €36 thousand. And at the same time this week the Ministry of Welfare announced that it cannot grant the 3+ family card until the youngest child turns 18 because money is lacking. Is that good policy? - judge for yourselves!
Latvia should not have to finance the operation of Russian-language radio stations. But that is exactly what is currently being done - all Russian-language radio stations use frequencies granted free of charge, which are state property and the most valuable part of the business. More than a month has passed since NEPLP submitted a proposal to the Saeima Human Rights and Public Affairs Committee to gradually phase out the operation of Russian-language radio stations over eight years. However, the committee's chair, Leila Rasima (Progressives), has not included this issue on the agenda. The Ministry of Culture, headed by Agnese Lāce (Progressives), had already not supported this approach and has shown no interest even in discussions. I call on the other Saeima factions - New Unity, ZZS, National Alliance, United List, Latvia First,, and Stability! - and independent MPs to approach this issue in a state-minded way and support this proposal, and to stop using state funds to maintain Russian-language radio broadcasting. Latvia has switched to state-funded education only in Latvian, and there is no argument for valuable state resources to be spent on maintaining a Russian-language information space in the commercial radio environment.
In the suburbs they say that ironically it was precisely Igors Rajevs who was one of the toughest @Apvienotais_ deputies, who called @Jauna_Vienotiba the greatest evil of the State and 100% supported AS remaining in opposition. Apparently the 7000+ EUR salary makes one reassess one's view of evil:)
