Well there you go https://t.co/93pxrMs4fe

One of the largest taxpayers in Latgale and specifically in Daugavpils is 'Latvijas maiznieks'. On a Latvian scale, every third 'loaf' comes from Daugavpils. And right now they are investing another 15 million in expanding the plant. Every plant is a valuable contribution to the Latvian economy! However, there we almost had to rewrite Elksniņš's state finances. At minus 20 degrees you would sign more than that. That was the option he mentioned...😅

Will Kulbergs enter a coalition with Šlesers? What can we conclude from Stepaņenko's composure? How do NA leaders distance themselves from a misogynist? On these and other questions, "Ir" colleagues Ieva Jakone, @AivarsOzo and @raudseps discuss on "Šķiltava". 🔗 https://t.co/OXK0XUF7YB https://t.co/jNyXV3o9X1

@Bertaane Europe has set a minimum threshold below which a rate may not be set. We may increase it as much as we want.

@Krusts3 I understood neither you nor Kulbergs. Each country sets its own VAT rate. Europe sets regulations.

Whatever puzzle pieces there are, we'll have to put the picture together with those.

@ruuzis @snurosnare @guntarsv I think it's a regional effect. But overall, exports are the only thing that makes us wealthier. Everything else is redistribution of existing wealth. Even though in reports that redistribution shows better numbers. If there is no export, there will be nothing to redistribute.

@poznaks @snurosnare @guntarsv Good argument, I hadn't thought about that. Of course, we can't easily calculate how much local consumption money per person the Regulation frees up, but intuitively it's clear it's not zero. I just intuitively also expected an advantage in taxes - on average 2k per year per person for such a company seems little.

@ruuzis @snurosnare @guntarsv The difference is that Depo redistributes local money. Moreover, selling imported goods for which money is counted away. Regula basically exports. So it brings money into Latvia from abroad. Although Regula pays less in direct taxes, it overall makes us wealthier more than Depo.

@poznaks @snurosnare @guntarsv But somehow strange that Depo one employee contributes more to the budget. Obviously I don't understand something or can't at the moment, but those numbers are what they are.

“We must stop interfering with teachers. The main thing is the centralized exam, and we will assess whether the program and methodology chosen by the teacher is right or wrong. But it is not good to get involved and interfere in the work process,” said Karina Sprūde (“Sovereign Power”/“Union of New Latvians”) during the #ChooseLatviasFuture debates in Valmiera. #Elections2026

“Times change, and artificial intelligence is coming in. We can resist it, but those young people will use it anyway. They must be the ones who, through this artificial intelligence, much faster increase learning opportunities and also learn things that will help their future,” said Edvards Smiltēns (AS) at the #ChooseLatvia'sFuture debates in Valmiera. #Elections2026

Teachers, in my opinion, are tired of endless reforms. That is why we must complete this started reform qualitatively to the end, because unfortunately even now there is still a lack of teaching materials. It is clear that primary school should be closer to the place of residence," said Daiga Mieriņa (ZZS) in the #IzvēliesLatvijasNākotni debates in Valmiera. #Vēlēšanas2026

Just like forgetting that no company is born big. The more favorable the environment for small ones, the more middle and large ones will grow.

@poznaks @guntarsv Everyone somehow forgets that the economic contribution is made by medium and large companies.

Political scientist: vote on two genders in the Constitution is party positioning before elections

@guntarsv Like I was just in London. While the passport beeped at the station, I remembered them again. Almost the whole world beeps passports on their equipment. Made in Daugavpils. Surreal. And in Latvia almost nobody knows that. It's not some startup.

Today I was in Daugavpils, and we also visited several companies. I was surprised. They produce world-class equipment that is exported to 170 countries. German police, foreign services, airports. What kind of equipment? Passport inspection scanners, for example. Equipment for examining forged documents and the like. Our airport has them too. There is only one country in the world where their operations are planned to be cancelled. That is Latvia. Which country to evacuate to? Maybe not necessary. We will try to fix this legislator's mistake.

Technologies used to check passports, banknotes, driver's licences, etc., and used by security services around the world. These technologies are produced in a region that in recent years has been regularly mentioned particularly in the security context – Latgale, Daugavpils, at the company “Regula Baltija” https://t.co/g4IXLikqp5

Very bad. It turns out that by the end of the term only eight deputies remain in the faction of the Offended List. Or maybe... the rest are miserable cowards and have pulled out their cards just so their opinion doesn't show. https://t.co/txK4qp7EE0 https://t.co/3Jg4TTwBN3

@suvajevs Šuvajev! There are only two genders, MALE and FEMALE! Marriage is a union between a MALE and a FEMALE! Stop messing with Latvia with your invented 117 genders!

In four years, I have rarely seen such great political cowardice as the United List and the National Alliance showed today. Supported for further review are both Šlesers' latest nightmares in the Constitution and Šlesers' attempts to influence an independent judiciary.

@Kolliss You think that 2 genders are an imported Russian value? 🤣

This is not much different from why people went to Doma square a few months ago. United List and National Alliance in their deepest essence are and remain representatives of the Russian 'values' imported by Šlesers. Moreover, they are really crude. https://t.co/CTwrzMBS6Z

@EdmundsJurevics What are you raving about? There is no Kremlin propaganda in biology textbooks, but the truth. It is precisely you and your party who divide society when you rave about other genders. Where in UN human rights is there even a single word about other genders?

Today the Saeima majority fell for a dangerous provocation by the Šlesers faction – solving non-existent problems in the style of Kremlin propaganda, dividing society and influencing the judiciary. Even before the vote, from the rostrum I called on the United List to avoid the mistake they made last autumn by allowing themselves to be drawn into the story of denouncing the Istanbul Convention, but to my unpleasant surprise, today too AS deputies not only voted for the Šlesers' provocation, but many AS deputies also shouted claims during the Saeima session that they would support the denunciation of the convention against violence in the next Saeima. On behalf of the @Jauna_Vienotiba faction, I call on @AndrisKulbergs to ensure and publicly confirm what is stipulated in the coalition agreement – not amending the Constitution and not deviating from human rights standards and the independence of the judiciary.
