Reviewing budget expenditures allows us to understand which funds can be used more effectively, so ministries have been told—we know what you have “in your stomach”. Latvia is an important partner for a strong Europe, increasing our resilience and support for Ukraine. This afternoon I therefore called my Latvian counterpart Prime Minister @AndrisKulbergs to congratulate him on his election victory last weekend. We looked ahead to next week's European Council and talked in particular about our efforts on a modern and affordable EU budget. A budget that is ready for the future, focused on our priorities: increasing our security, strengthening our competitiveness and managing migration. I look forward to our further cooperation.

@janisdombrava @Uckevics Very, very good. This should have been done long ago!🤝👌

Already now border guards and soldiers can use firearms to detain saboteurs and other persons who illegally enter our country, but I will propose amending legal provisions to give greater freedom of action to our state's defenders. Those who guard the state border – border guards, soldiers and other officials – must be confident that they will not be held criminally liable for the lawful use of firearms and special means.

@MinPres Thank you for the call, it was a good, constructive discussion prior to next week's Brussels MFF meetings.

"Voters are the same all over the world - everyone looks at their wallets. The state does not affect the economy; the main problem is inflation - food, fuel prices, etc. The voter is united - if he sees that inflation eats away what he has earned, then they all want changes in politics and demand something from the state. Big countries, however, deal with these things differently. In Latvia, the problem is that we cannot influence inflation. We live in an absurd myth - we expect from the state what it cannot do." - economist, advisor to the finance minister @guntarsv #naudascena

@BSmildzina @Aivars_Jurkalns @ktn_rs If something seems simple at first glance, it is most likely more complicated than we think. If it were possible, such salaries would have been paid long ago. Simply raising salaries is a so-called “dead end”.

@Aivars_Jurkalns @ktn_rs @CerinsAivis And then we put vatniks in power and wonder why a bread baker who works nights and a nurse who works hard in round-the-clock shifts cannot be paid a mere 2–2.5 thousand for hard work that leaves consequences for their health.

@BSmildzina @ktn_rs That is not true. I have not divided anyone into such categories. I myself come from a family where dad is a long-haul truck driver and mom is a cook. During my studies I sold beer in the beer bars at the arena, and in summers I dried grain at VAKS Valmiera to cover my tuition fees. Nobody has given me anything for free.

@ktn_rs @CerinsAivis Arrogance. He is one of those who divide people into qualified and low-skilled. An ordinary worker is supposedly to blame himself for receiving a low salary. The fact that a person bakes cakes all his life and wants to receive decent pay for the work, as is the case in other EU countries, does not interest him.

@Braze_Baiba @VL_TBLNNK Thank you, this is important from the standpoint of cooperation with our strategic partner. Foreign affairs has a special role in building this cooperation. We will resolve matters with the Latvian film industry separately.

On support for the 🇱🇻 film 🎥 industry, we agreed with @AndrisKulbergs and @VL_TBLNNK at the Cooperation meeting on Monday, and the entire government coalition was united — it is necessary and will be ensured. But there is no need to fall out with our strategic security partner, the USA.

😄 Prague has found the perfect use for Putin — printing his face on dog-poop bags The idea came from Czech designer and humorist Tomáš Břímek. Part of the proceeds from the bags goes to support Ukraine through the Dárek pro Putina initiative — “A Gift for Putin.” Keeping the city clean — and the karma clean too.

@ktn_rs Overall, it's not exactly a vale of tears to go hang yourself. More than +5k against -13k is not fatal. We have to keep working, rethink the mistakes, and it will be fine! 👍

I still think we need to investigate why voters crossed out Aivis Ceriņš @CerinsAivis. He is a great Latvian patriot. He serves in the National Guard. He hosts a TV programme, speaks openly and honestly. He looks very good, has a beautiful family (divorced or not, that's another question). He carries out his affairs without murders worthy of crime novels. He says nothing bad about his ex-wife. And as a reward, not many pluses, but minuses. Why?!. I really don't understand this. So Latvians are supposed to cross out people like this? I mean, I still think there is envy and jealousy, from both women and men.

@DW_Immurs @TontonsB @ktn_rs I agree with you, Dāvis, on this. My ambition and goal was not even sitting in parliament, but rather, through politics, to advance civil-military cooperation and sort out the regulations so that it would finally be put in order. Practical things that would be useful both in storms, floods, and military threat.

@TontonsB @ktn_rs @CerinsAivis People didn't want Ceriņš as minister.

@IlzeBo @ktn_rs @Inese_Jolo A very good suggestion. Just as the new intake is being assembled for basic training.

@ktn_rs @Inese_Jolo @CerinsAivis Unless there are obstacles caused by health or a criminal past, the National Guard is not like reaching outer space for anyone. It is separated from you by exactly one phone call and one written application. Perhaps this is your moment to do it?

@andrislov @JazepsBasko Ireland made an offshore. Now this possibility is forbidden in the EU.

@guntarsv @JazepsBasko Thank you, Mr. Vītols, for the idea of the Irish election model. Let us hope that it will not end like all good things in Latvia, that it will not dissolve in some working group… Ireland once did something else rude: lowered corporate tax and let capital come in.

@caurums @JazepsBasko Probably not. The offer is very good, I proposed it myself, it should be implemented, but it is no longer on my agenda. Society doesn't want it as a whole. It is said not needed. They need Lucky Bears. Good luck to everyone.

@guntarsv @JazepsBasko I didn't quite understand. Is the new election model on your agenda for the next four years, or not?

An anecdotal, dear, hatred-free curtsy to this evening. So, MMN @JazepsBasko says: "We from the non-parliamentary opposition will continue to supply Kulbergs with ideas on how to do it." Do you know what's with those offers? MMN started with 5 people, including me. 'Without parties.' The election ideas were developed by two people. @DidzisSmits as organizer, and I. That simple. The election model was chosen by the two of us. Not bad, I say. Later three others came. Together there were five. Then came the ego case and 'I'm the boss'. The director drifted away. But the idea took root. The economic programme? Well, I wrote it myself. Three parties have now taken it over. Four years ago there was only one; with Andris we wrote the programme for AS. And insiders know that. I don't regret it at all; let them pin medals on themselves. May everyone be well and people have good sense. The circus continues.

@renatelz Wow.... this is so touching, deeply warming the heart. What’s the little one’s name and how old are they?

It's important for the little one to watch the news every evening. Tonight before falling asleep he asked me to show him the Prime Minister again, the one he can't really pronounce, but I understood what he wanted. I turned on @AndrisKulbergs's video of thanks to the nation. My son looked shyly and said: “When I meet him, I'll tell him,

I disagree, and here is why. A professional in the ministerial post works with a party mandate. Politically supervised. That will always be so by definition, because no party will put in someone who does not promise to implement the party's directives. If they fail, they are recalled. If they turn out not professional enough, too. The problem with MPs who become ministers is that they are harder to recall. Even if they totally ruin everything. There are many examples. Why are they not recalled? Because they are usually party bigwigs, leaders. They essentially put themselves in 'a bigger salary and more TV time'. Who can recall them then? That is why in the end there are various messes and incompetence.
