Latvia is an important partner for a strong Europe, increasing our resilience and support for Ukraine. This afternoon I therefore called my Latvian counterpart Prime Minister @AndrisKulbergs to congratulate him on his election victory last weekend. We looked ahead to next week's European Council and talked in particular about our efforts on a modern and affordable EU budget. A budget that is ready for the future, focused on our priorities: increasing our security, strengthening our competitiveness and managing migration. I look forward to our further cooperation.

@janisdombrava @Uckevics Very, very good. This should have been done long ago!🤝👌

Already now border guards and soldiers can use firearms to detain saboteurs and other persons who illegally enter our country, but I will propose amending legal provisions to give greater freedom of action to our state's defenders. Those who guard the state border – border guards, soldiers and other officials – must be confident that they will not be held criminally liable for the lawful use of firearms and special means.

@Braze_Baiba @VL_TBLNNK Thank you, this is important from the standpoint of cooperation with our strategic partner. Foreign affairs has a special role in building this cooperation. We will resolve matters with the Latvian film industry separately.

On support for the 🇱🇻 film 🎥 industry, we agreed with @AndrisKulbergs and @VL_TBLNNK at the Cooperation meeting on Monday, and the entire government coalition was united — it is necessary and will be ensured. But there is no need to fall out with our strategic security partner, the USA.

@DW_Immurs @TontonsB @ktn_rs I agree with you, Dāvis, on this. My ambition and goal was not even sitting in parliament, but rather, through politics, to advance civil-military cooperation and sort out the regulations so that it would finally be put in order. Practical things that would be useful both in storms, floods, and military threat.

@TontonsB @ktn_rs @CerinsAivis People didn't want Ceriņš as minister.

@IlzeBo @ktn_rs @Inese_Jolo A very good suggestion. Just as the new intake is being assembled for basic training.

@ktn_rs @Inese_Jolo @CerinsAivis Unless there are obstacles caused by health or a criminal past, the National Guard is not like reaching outer space for anyone. It is separated from you by exactly one phone call and one written application. Perhaps this is your moment to do it?

Thank you, Gitanas. It is a victory, but at the same time, it comes with a tremendous responsibility to the people of Latvia to deliver the change they have demanded. We have our hands full making it happen. I greatly value our friendship and the close cooperation between us and our countries. We must stand strong together — as Baltic nations and as 🇪🇺 Eastern Flank countries bordering the aggressor — on security and defence, on cross-border projects such as Rail Baltica and Via Baltica, and in shaping our common position in the negotiations on the next 🇪🇺 budget. Let’s stay strong and support each other in good times and difficult ones. We are Baltic brothers! 🇱🇻🇱🇹

Congratulations, @AndrisKulbergs, on your victory in Latvia’s parliamentary elections. I look forward to continuing our close cooperation in the European Council and working together for a stronger Baltic region and a more secure Europe, while maintaining our unwavering support for Ukraine.

Congratulations, @AndrisKulbergs, on your electoral victory! I’m looking forward to continuing to work with you. Together, we have a lot to do: making our nations and our #Baltic region stronger and safer, strengthening Europe’s resilience and its eastern flank, and continuing our unwavering support for Ukraine. Let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work. I’m very happy to be in such excellent company.

@gidonsaar Thank you for your kind words and support. It is a great responsibility to deliver the change demanded by the Latvian people, and we will deliver! We want to increase cooperation and economic and defense ties with Israel. Looking forward to working together to achieve that.

Warm congratulations to Prime Minister @AndrisKulbergs on the impressive electoral victory. I wish success to the new Latvian government that will be formed, in strengthening the economy, security and resilience, for the benefit of the Latvian people. I look forward to the continued strong cooperation between our countries 🇮🇱 🇱🇻

I think Ms Siliņa is wrong here, because without Defence Minister Melnis the result could have been much worse… https://t.co/X1yIL6eKwe

@lovemurr22 I respect the voters' choice. I will continue my service, serving state security in the National Guard, raise the little ones and be politically active👍 It is worth learning from mistakes, not giving up and whining.

@CerinsAivis You would just as easily “make an idiotic mistake” with the country. Again - a very deserved booing.

There is no drama here. I have a good relationship with Česlavs, we have discussed education a lot. Mostly on the same wavelength. At the time he was also an excellent principal at the school where the children go, all due respect. What I saw in the budget expenditure review group is a separate topic. The control of how funding is used is below any criticism. And when all ministries buckled down and brought savings, when defense spending needed to be raised to 5%, the Ministry of Education and Science put its feet up on the table and got a free pass. That is not good, not good at all.

AS is Guntars Vītols from FM with this view on the school network, and AS is Saeima Education Commission chair Česlavs Batņa with the view “We must understand that education will not be profitable. Closing schools is obscurantism.” https://t.co/uaj4DiBFmS

Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs hasn’t been shy telling Europe that the Baltics were always right about Russia - and that Europe must now ensure Ukrainian victory. He won’t be going quiet any time soon. Latvian voters just gave him an unprecedented mandate: https://t.co/Wm12OHxWo6

Thank you, @ZelenskyyUa . It is important that we have strong governments across NATO’s and the EU’s Eastern Flank, especially in countries bordering the aggressor in the East. This is essential to safeguard our democratic values, strengthen our defence and security, and at the same time carry out the reforms needed to grow our economies. Defence industry cooperation is an area where we must continue building on the strong progress we have already made together with you and 🇺🇦. Support for Ukraine is—and will remain—a priority for Latvia 🇱🇻 and for 🇪🇺. By fighting back against Russia’s occupying forces, Ukraine is not only defending its own freedom and sovereignty—you are helping keep all of Europe safe. We stand with Ukraine. 🇱🇻🤝🇺🇦

My warmest congratulations to @AndrisKulbergs on his convincing victory in Latvia’s parliamentary elections. This strong result reflects the trust of the Latvian people in your leadership and vision for the country. Ukraine deeply values Latvia’s unwavering friendship and support. I look forward to further strengthening our strategic partnership. Wishing you every success in serving the Latvian people!
