Day No. 80 in the prime minister's chair — 🇷🇺 grain transit and airBaltic Chapter 11 approval. Today two important things. 🌾 1. 🇷🇺 grain transit solution - The government - AS + NA + JV + ZZS - unanimously decided on a solution to restrict 🇷🇺 grain transit, providing for a +300% fee for the use of railway infrastructure. - This is also a response to 🇷🇺's unilateral doubling of the Russian railway tariff since June 1. - 🇱🇻 grain gets 100% priority for our farmers. - Latvian port capacity is freely available for 🇱🇻 grain, and it is already being actively exported through our ports. - The bill is being urgently submitted to the Saeima this Thursday. After its adoption and entry into force, LatRailNet, which sets railway infrastructure charges, will make the necessary changes to tariffs. That will take up to about 2 weeks. - The Ministry of Agriculture and @uldisaugulis have done the work, concluding a contract with 🇬🇧 DEFA for grain testing and laboratory use in cooperation with 🇺🇦. - The 🇺🇦 side has confirmed that Ukrainian specialists will arrive in Latvia as early as next week to help identify possibly stolen 🇺🇦 grain. - We have reached a common position with the 🇪🇪 and 🇱🇹 prime ministers on introducing uniform restrictions on 🇷🇺 grain. We are advancing the grain issue at the fastest possible pace. ✈️ 2. airBaltic Chapter 11 procedure - airBaltic's Chapter 11 procedure in a 🇺🇸 court has been accepted and has already received the judge's approval. This means airBaltic will be able to: 💶 access financing immediately; 🔧 start the restructuring process; 📑 review obligations to creditors. Work continues.
We translate into Latvian: no slowing down or limiting of the bloody (soaked in Ukrainian children's blood) Muscovite grain transportation through Latvia will happen – this government does not intend to do it (they will say they cannot). We remind: in the government are AS, NA, ZZS, JV – all together and each separately are responsible and will have to pay their own at the elections in compensation for their government's prime minister's bravado statements – now we'll control, now we'll burden with unbearable payments, now...

Uldis Augulis (ZZS) emphasizes that at the European level there are still no restrictions on transit, such bans would need to be coordinated. Therefore, it has been decided to carry out grain analyses, but if it is found that it was grown in the occupied territories of Ukraine, the respective carrier could face criminal liability.
“United List” supports imposing a 300% tariff on transit from Russia and Belarus, believing that it will work as a ban, as it will make transit unattractive. Meanwhile, “Progressives” and NA call for banning transit.
The government led by AS promises to increase the fee for Russian and Belarusian grain cargoes and their processing in Latvia's infrastructure by 300%. Two questions arise. Why do the restrictions apply only to grain, not to all imports and exports with aggressor countries? And why a 300% tariff instead of a complete ban on transit of these cargoes? There is a risk that the loud announcement will become a simulation of action. The procedure for cargo inspections and origin determination still needs to be developed, the EU regulations and already concluded contracts need to be assessed. Therefore, the government must say clearly. When exactly will the restrictions take effect and how many Russian cargoes will actually cross Latvia after that? The goal should not be to collect more, but to stop servicing the aggressor state's cargo.

The ruling coalition promises that the transit tariffs for Russian bloody grain will be significantly raised, but does not say which exactly, of the many transit corridor tariffs, they will be. Considering that only a few of them, and not the most important ones, the state is able to influence, this sounds more like populism. https://t.co/NZzVqYxyRw
The government plans to impose a 300% tariff on grain shipments from Russia and Belarus and their processing, Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs (AS) told journalists after a coalition meeting.
