Yesterday at the cooperation meeting, the progress of Jānis Dombrava's submitted Immigration Restriction Plan was postponed. Today Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs first explains on X that there was no time to familiarize himself with the plan. Although it had been publicly available since 24 July. Apparently 39 days were too few for the Prime Minister to do so. A working group is also to be convened. Although it is clear to everyone that a working group is an excellent bureaucratic instrument to kill anything. In fact, we are returning to the old bureaucratic habits — not doing, but endlessly discussing. The Prime Minister also states that the plan is not fully coordinated. One of those who have not coordinated is the association Gribu palīdzēt bēgļiem. I very much doubt whether it is possible to agree any immigration restriction plan with this association, and then we cannot actually accept anything. Later on X, Kulbergs moves to personal insults and abandons argumentation. These were not even any amendments to the law, it was a plan. A framework. A signal that the state wants to restrict immigration. Unfortunately, it seems that immigration restriction is important to many only in words, not in deeds.

The only country where immigrants built prosperity was the USA. Europeans built a country to live in. The same, Danish data shows that migration worsens welfare and is an additional burden on the budget. Enough telling that it will be different for us. Not even mentioning the violence and crime that follow migrants.

As Prime Minister Kulbergs would say, the report is sh…, because I would even say anti-state. Why? Please - Indeed, the report provides a well-founded assessment of the load on state institutions and security risks at the EU external border, however the proposed restrictive framework contains significant economic and legal risks for Latvia's development! The introduction of general quantitative quotas and disproportionate burdens on study and work migration reduce the country's competitiveness, slow economic growth and contradict European Union law. Migration management consistent with the long-term interests of the national economy requires abandoning absolute numerical caps, replacing them with flexible, sector-demand-based monitoring and a 'green corridor' system for trusted employers. Upon receiving a temporary residence permit, this person will never receive a permanent residence permit, unless they have passed the state language exam and have lived in the country for at least 5 years continuously without violating the law. In higher education, it is essential to preserve university autonomy and export capacity, ensuring targeted quality supervision rather than introducing comprehensive proportion restrictions. To reduce the administrative burden in public administration, priority should be given to digital integration of institutions and automatic data exchange, avoiding resource-intensive in-person registration procedures. State security interests and economic development must work in synergy, ensuring sustainable and internationally competitive national growth, not the proposed 'Dombrava' variant – returning to moss village laws. That is my opinion.

The Prime Minister complains that approvals are missing. Whose duty is it, if not the Prime Minister's, to ensure that the government's work moves forward? The Prime Minister is not a clerk whose job is to note that a paper is missing from some file. The Prime Minister leads the government, convenes ministers, resolves disagreements and achieves decisions. The government declaration states in black and white: restrict the issuing of long-term visas and residence permits, set the permissible number of third-country nationals and close schemes for legalising economic immigrants. Mr Prime Minister, you did not stop the 'theatre'. You yourself stalled the implementation of your own government declaration. When Interior Minister @janisdombrava has submitted concrete proposals, the Prime Minister does not organise their review and make a decision, but publicly announces that approvals are missing, and calls the work done a 'theatrical fight' and 'dull voter fishing'. Open tunnels on the border. Raids are taking place. Immigration control is being stepped up. Quotas for third-country nationals are being prepared, stricter requirements for foreign students and universities, control over employment intermediaries and liability for residence rule violations. Where exactly is the theatre here? When the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister toured the border and stood in front of cameras, that was obviously statesmanship. When uncomfortable decisions have to be made and powerful economic interests opposed, it suddenly becomes 'hysteria'. That's where the story about procedure ends. In one hand @AndrisKulbergs holds the government declaration promising to restrict the issuing of long-term visas and residence permits. In the other hand he holds proposals to keep investor temporary residence permits, the so-called 'golden visas'. The immigration restriction plan still needs at least 14 more approvals. The 'golden visa' idea apparently only needs an investment fund brochure and promises of rich sheikhs. Latvia does not need an immigration policy in which security solutions can be postponed while residence permits can again be turned into a commodity. Latvia does not need a system in which the interests of universities, labour intermediaries and various investment schemes matter more than the state's ability to control who enters Latvia, why they stay here and what they do here. If the Prime Minister objects to specific points of the plan, he should simply say so. If corrections are needed, they should be made. If ministries cannot agree, the Prime Minister should sit them at one table and reach a decision. That is exactly what the Prime Minister is paid for. Not for videos in which he publicly scolds his government's ministers and explains to the public why the government cannot do its own job. Restricting immigration is not theatre. The theatre begins when the Prime Minister promises one thing, brakes another and pushes a third.

DAY No. 68 in the prime minister's chair — Dombrava's imitated MIGRANT struggle @VL_TBLNNK hysteria about immigration sometimes looks like a spoiled kindergartener. Here is everything you need to know about @janisdombrava's 'theater battle' with immigration. 🎭 Apparently Dombrava is not interested in a real result in restricting migration, but in loud and pointless shouting. It is a pity that their own voters are fooled in this way. Interior Minister Dombrava apparently still has not understood what it means to be a minister and how work happens in the Cabinet of Ministers. I would suggest his more experienced NA colleagues — @KasparsGerhards, @IIndriksone or Mūrniece — explain what it means to prepare and submit an informative report (IZ) to the government. ❓ How do Dombrava and NA even imagine pushing a FULLY UNSYNCHRONIZED issue to a government meeting? Just because they felt like it? 📸 The screenshot from the MK TAP portal shows everything as clear as day: ➡️ Dombrava's informative report was submitted on Monday, 31 August, at 12:59 — only about 1.5 hours before the coalition meeting; ➡️ the document is completely unsynchronized with 14 institutions — not with the Ministry of Justice, Finance, Economy, Foreign Affairs, Welfare, Environmental Protection and Regional Development, Health, the State Chancellery, @darbadeveji, @LTRK_uznemeji, etc. Simply coming in, throwing a document into the government and then announcing that 'everyone is against fighting immigration' is dull, cheap and populist voter fishing with no basis. 🤝 At the coalition meeting we all agreed that the document must be coordinated, and this Friday a special political meeting is being organized to agree on its content point by point. Apparently even that seems superfluous to Dombrava, if noise is more important than results. ⚠️ And the objections are not formal — they are very substantial. For example, Dombrava suddenly imagined suing TWO European Commission commissioners and proposing amendments to an EU directive. The Foreign Ministry has significant objections to that. The interior minister cannot simply bypass all Cabinet working procedures, throw a document unsynchronized with anyone into the government and demand an immediate decision. Many ministers had not even had time to familiarize themselves with the document today. 📌 Moreover, there is no talk of some 'stuck coordination'. There has not even been a normal coordination cycle! The document must first be prepared properly, go through coordination and be brought to a government decision. Only then can one say that someone is blocking it. Dombrava simply did not do his homework. The facts are simple: 1️⃣ A project can be submitted to the government agenda if it is submitted by Wednesday evening. This project was already submitted on Monday, 31 August, at 12:59, shortly before the coalition meeting. 2️⃣ After clarifying the project, it was not sent to ministries for a repeated opinion. 3️⃣ The argument about delay does not hold up — the report has had almost three months since the beginning of June to be prepared. 🎯 If we really want to restrict illegal migration, we need results, prepared decisions and professional work, not loud slogans and political theater.

@Afanasijs Oh you poor thing - receiving salaries for a whole year and being without phones and unable to accomplish any of the functions 🤡

So - the war between NA and Kulbergs has begun. Now NA blames things he's not even close to being involved in. Remind me, who created the incompetent Crisis Management Center, without giving it an office or phones? The cause of the storm's aftermath is all previous governments, including NA! https://t.co/JkIGrtuVVH

A new storm raised by Kulbergs to forget the previous one. On 22/08, storm aftermath management was AK's responsibility with the Crisis Management Center directly under him, who turned out to be 000. He even dared to say that this is not a real crisis. Good that @KEM_Latvija VS Līga K. took over crisis management.

@pret_patvaribu @ArtursButans @AndrisKulbergs @VL_TBLNNK @janisdombrava @AizsardzibasMin Disagreement does not always indicate mistakes :) More often it indicates unwillingness to align for ideological, political reasons.

@ArtursButans @AndrisKulbergs @VL_TBLNNK @janisdombrava The public went to the TAP portal and saw ~29 uncoordinated proposals/objections, including from @AizsardzibasMin and other ministries, which indicate errors in the submitted document in the legislative context. @VL_TBLNNK thinks that these objections, which indicate significant errors, should not be taken into account?! https://t.co/09t18ToSxh

Excellent government. A hundred days are approaching, nothing has been done, publicly squabbling over document coordination procedures. For the “energetic” Kulbergs, some ministers are too energetic.

Thank you.

@poznaks @jautaa_veel @Apvienotais_ @EdvardsSmiltens @Edgars_T In this case I mean AS. It is reported that the document was sent to ministries for coordination from 24.07. And secondly, Kulbergs himself does not know that in emergency situations it can be moved to a Cabinet meeting and then give specific instructions for improvement and coordination with ministries.

Irš and manipulates. He talks about illegal, but the main problem is legal migration, and here Kulberg's masters want to keep everything in big ways + “golden visas” for Russian-speaking, residents of Muslim countries. It was also reported that as of July, the AS and JL ministries are not approving these documents! https://t.co/RUTWQdF4fU

Bullshit, the prime minister probably hopes people will trust him and not look themselves - the document has passed 2! approval deadlines. 🙈 https://t.co/j7PcG8oMuc If that document is available to me, then it should have been equally available to the "surprised" ministers. Let them work! 😆 The approval portal says that the minister is ENTITLED to forward it to the Cabinet of Ministers meeting. That is - not only does the minister know how it should be done, but he is also entitled to forward the ministry's work result for consideration at the meeting. Then let the "plantation" representatives follow, speak up, publicly shine, rather than maybe peeking at their phones.

@AndrisKulbergs @VL_TBLNNK @janisdombrava One of the experienced AS prime ministers, e.g. M. Kučinskis, could have explained to you that in emergency situations, in the government's work organization there is also a concept such as 'Cabinet of Ministers case', where the coordination process takes place during the government meeting, bypassing all bureaucratic procedures.
