I have worked for 100 days as Minister of Culture in the government of Prime Minister A. Kulbergs. Upon taking office, I set several priorities at the forefront of the work to be done, all of which have now been implemented to the extent that they have already been reviewed or submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers, so they are no longer on my desk, and part of the draft laws I have advanced are already on the Saeima's agenda. 🔗More here: https://t.co/sgrwAmUTS3

As we discussed with employers today. We have a bunch of laws and regulations that require allocating funding to various sectors as a certain % of GDP. And there, when adding up, about one billion euros is missing. For a long time. That is on top of the already existing deficit (borrowed money) of 2 billion per year. It will never be fulfilled, even theoretically impossible. Such regulations should be thrown in the trash. There is a list.

Parties that do not make such a budget correction are leading Latvia to destruction. At least a 30% cut in the bureaucratic service, as well as reduced state intervention in business. Also culture and sports. The state does not owe athletes. @guntarsv give 'chainsaws' to ministers to sharpen. Also @AndrisKulbergs https://t.co/r17V5J9i8B

In all this storm mess, the thing that failed the most was Latvian Radio. The broadcaster, which could and should have become the main information provider for the public, calmly aired radio plays and worked in weekend mode. I wonder, will @seplpadome react to this somehow?

@anonimizets @Lato_Lapsa @letanewslv @AndrisKulbergs This is an order. “Leta”, in my opinion, serves “New Unity”, “The Progressives” and “Latvia’s Development”. I hope “Leta” will be excluded from any mass media support programs.

I’m listening to @letanewslv’s interview with @AndrisKulbergs, and journalists ask not about ideas, but only about red lines and criticize his political incorrectness. Complete unprofessionalism and marginalism from the journalists IMHO.

The Livs are not just a part of our history – they are the indigenous people of Latvia and one of the founding nations of our state. Therefore, our duty is not only to preserve the Livonian language and culture, but also to strengthen the people who care for their future every day. Together with the University of Latvia's Livonian Institute and Valts Ernštreits, we will create an annual award for special contribution to the development of the Livonian community, strengthening the Livonian language, culture, and identity. This award will be gratitude to people and works that, often without broad public attention, help preserve and develop an integral part of Latvia's identity. Latvia is the only homeland of the Livs. We have a duty to ensure that the Livonian language, culture, and traditions are not only preserved, but also continue to live and develop for future generations.

That is why it is vitally important to adopt the Declaration on preventing the consequences of Russification and finally recognize that the Russian language in Latvia IS NOT A MINORITY LANGUAGE - because people are not Russified through minority languages. @VL_TBLNNK @EdmundsJurevics @EdvardsSmiltens @ArtursButans @IIndriksone @Progresivie https://t.co/TnueKjBqN6

Victory! The public media is NOT obliged to broadcast in Russian, the Constitutional Court has ruled. Until now, the law was specifically cited to justify the disproportionately large amount of Russian-language content on public media. The court initiated the case after NA and AS filed a lawsuit. https://t.co/w7YjHZgYxl

Latvia should not have to finance the operation of Russian-language radio stations. But that is exactly what is currently being done - all Russian-language radio stations use frequencies granted free of charge, which are state property and the most valuable part of the business. More than a month has passed since NEPLP submitted a proposal to the Saeima Human Rights and Public Affairs Committee to gradually phase out the operation of Russian-language radio stations over eight years. However, the committee's chair, Leila Rasima (Progressives), has not included this issue on the agenda. The Ministry of Culture, headed by Agnese Lāce (Progressives), had already not supported this approach and has shown no interest even in discussions. I call on the other Saeima factions - New Unity, ZZS, National Alliance, United List, Latvia First,, and Stability! - and independent MPs to approach this issue in a state-minded way and support this proposal, and to stop using state funds to maintain Russian-language radio broadcasting. Latvia has switched to state-funded education only in Latvian, and there is no argument for valuable state resources to be spent on maintaining a Russian-language information space in the commercial radio environment.

NA and AS have jointly turned to the Constitutional Court to challenge the obligation for public media to broadcast in Russian. Currently SEPLP interprets what is stated in the law as norms that do not allow but impose an obligation to broadcast in minority languages. https://t.co/FGmVoRI97G
