According to @LaSERdomnica's study on demographics and immigration, the economy can only grow with an increase in birth rate or by attracting people from other countries. Unfortunately, the birth rate in Latvia is also low, and we cannot do without well-organized immigration @AndrisKulbergs@AndrisBite
Maybe it is enough to hide behind bureaucratic procedure and clearly say that Kulbergs and NA have fundamentally different views on migration.
NA believes that there are already too many migrants in Latvia. Kulbergs—that more are needed, because Latvians are leaving and someone is needed to warm Latvia’s economy in their place. Kulbergs’ full argument can be heard in the Saeima Defence Committee recording of 5 May this year https://t.co/0381jD1CU6 , where he justifies his “golden visa” proposals in the Immigration Law.
It is not a crime to think that way. Many businessmen (Šlesers, Šķēle) think similarly: economic gain above all. But this approach is incompatible with NA’s strict immigration stance.
Saying that Dombrava’s plan is bad because it lacks formal approvals is rather strange, especially since the document has already gone through two rounds of coordination with ministries since July.
The problem is not formalities. The content is not liked. Kulbergs simply does not support the strict immigration restrictions that NA offers. And he looks for excuses to slow it down. That’s all.
Today others also learned that Kulberg will never go against reducing bureaucracy and against restricting immigration (see Kulberg's video No. 68). Because the LDDK/LTRK (from where he entered politics) business and university lobby has already brought those migrants here. He may be a good blogger and, as a car salesman, has well polished the art of fooling people, but he is unfit for the job of prime minister. It is month 3 and not a single (!) thing has been done. Rinkevičs knew well that by choosing this empty talker, three hares would be shot at once: the old governance order preserved, a second term guaranteed for himself, and the gullible part of the Latvian people fed an illusion of grand reforms until 3 Oct.
@marisrumba1957@Krisjanis_K@AndrisKulbergs The government only adopts decisions that are agreed in part A of its meetings, and adopts those that are not agreed in part B. And don't think that immigration supporters will agree on this. :)
@Krisjanis_K@EdvardsRatnieks@AndrisKulbergs what is unclear? NA received 4.5% in the last poll. I wouldn't want to believe that NA is so stupid that it doesn't know that the government only adopts agreed decisions.

If Kulberg's office manager has time in the middle of the day to write arguing comments under my post, then the country is being run by a charlatan. A bit scary.

DAY No. 68 in the prime minister's chair — Dombrava's imitated MIGRANT struggle
@VL_TBLNNK hysteria about immigration sometimes looks like a spoiled kindergartener.
Here is everything you need to know about @janisdombrava's 'theater battle' with immigration. 🎭
Apparently Dombrava is not interested in a real result in restricting migration, but in loud and pointless shouting. It is a pity that their own voters are fooled in this way.
Interior Minister Dombrava apparently still has not understood what it means to be a minister and how work happens in the Cabinet of Ministers. I would suggest his more experienced NA colleagues — @KasparsGerhards, @IIndriksone or Mūrniece — explain what it means to prepare and submit an informative report (IZ) to the government.
❓ How do Dombrava and NA even imagine pushing a FULLY UNSYNCHRONIZED issue to a government meeting?
Just because they felt like it?
📸 The screenshot from the MK TAP portal shows everything as clear as day:
➡️ Dombrava's informative report was submitted on Monday, 31 August, at 12:59 — only about 1.5 hours before the coalition meeting;
➡️ the document is completely unsynchronized with 14 institutions — not with the Ministry of Justice, Finance, Economy, Foreign Affairs, Welfare, Environmental Protection and Regional Development, Health, the State Chancellery, @darbadeveji, @LTRK_uznemeji, etc.
Simply coming in, throwing a document into the government and then announcing that 'everyone is against fighting immigration' is dull, cheap and populist voter fishing with no basis.
🤝 At the coalition meeting we all agreed that the document must be coordinated, and this Friday a special political meeting is being organized to agree on its content point by point.
Apparently even that seems superfluous to Dombrava, if noise is more important than results.
⚠️ And the objections are not formal — they are very substantial.
For example, Dombrava suddenly imagined suing TWO European Commission commissioners and proposing amendments to an EU directive. The Foreign Ministry has significant objections to that.
The interior minister cannot simply bypass all Cabinet working procedures, throw a document unsynchronized with anyone into the government and demand an immediate decision. Many ministers had not even had time to familiarize themselves with the document today.
📌 Moreover, there is no talk of some 'stuck coordination'. There has not even been a normal coordination cycle!
The document must first be prepared properly, go through coordination and be brought to a government decision. Only then can one say that someone is blocking it.
Dombrava simply did not do his homework.
The facts are simple:
1️⃣ A project can be submitted to the government agenda if it is submitted by Wednesday evening. This project was already submitted on Monday, 31 August, at 12:59, shortly before the coalition meeting.
2️⃣ After clarifying the project, it was not sent to ministries for a repeated opinion.
3️⃣ The argument about delay does not hold up — the report has had almost three months since the beginning of June to be prepared.
🎯 If we really want to restrict illegal migration, we need results, prepared decisions and professional work, not loud slogans and political theater.
Today others also learned that Kulberg will never go against reducing bureaucracy and against restricting immigration (see Kulberg's video No. 68). Because the LDDK/LTRK (from where he entered politics) business and university lobby has already brought those migrants here. The Prime Minister complains that approvals are missing.
Whose duty is it, if not the Prime Minister's, to ensure that the government's work moves forward? The Prime Minister is not a clerk whose job is to note that a paper is missing from some file. The Prime Minister leads the government, convenes ministers, resolves disagreements and achieves decisions.
The government declaration states in black and white: restrict the issuing of long-term visas and residence permits, set the permissible number of third-country nationals and close schemes for legalising economic immigrants.
Mr Prime Minister, you did not stop the 'theatre'. You yourself stalled the implementation of your own government declaration.
When Interior Minister @janisdombrava has submitted concrete proposals, the Prime Minister does not organise their review and make a decision, but publicly announces that approvals are missing, and calls the work done a 'theatrical fight' and 'dull voter fishing'.
Open tunnels on the border. Raids are taking place. Immigration control is being stepped up.
Quotas for third-country nationals are being prepared, stricter requirements for foreign students and universities, control over employment intermediaries and liability for residence rule violations.
Where exactly is the theatre here?
When the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister toured the border and stood in front of cameras, that was obviously statesmanship. When uncomfortable decisions have to be made and powerful economic interests opposed, it suddenly becomes 'hysteria'.
That's where the story about procedure ends.
In one hand @AndrisKulbergs holds the government declaration promising to restrict the issuing of long-term visas and residence permits. In the other hand he holds proposals to keep investor temporary residence permits, the so-called 'golden visas'. The immigration restriction plan still needs at least 14 more approvals. The 'golden visa' idea apparently only needs an investment fund brochure and promises of rich sheikhs.
Latvia does not need an immigration policy in which security solutions can be postponed while residence permits can again be turned into a commodity. Latvia does not need a system in which the interests of universities, labour intermediaries and various investment schemes matter more than the state's ability to control who enters Latvia, why they stay here and what they do here.
If the Prime Minister objects to specific points of the plan, he should simply say so. If corrections are needed, they should be made. If ministries cannot agree, the Prime Minister should sit them at one table and reach a decision.
That is exactly what the Prime Minister is paid for. Not for videos in which he publicly scolds his government's ministers and explains to the public why the government cannot do its own job.
Restricting immigration is not theatre. The theatre begins when the Prime Minister promises one thing, brakes another and pushes a third.
Thoughts were about one thing - with whom will AS form the government after October 3? That will decide everything - also how we will stop the inflow of migrants into Latvia. https://t.co/SEXac0teiA
It is precisely Kulbergs's responsibility as prime minister to fulfill what was promised in his government declaration about restricting migration. Given the sensitive nature of the immigration issue, already in June he should have summoned the ministers to himself and politically agreed on the main measures to restrict migration. Can it really be that none of the prime minister's advisers can tell him this? And only then give the task to officials to put it on paper. Experience shows that officials are able to carry out such political agreements even within 24 hours. Instead, 3 months of dawdling with bureaucratic procedures. The government must be led. And that is not done on social media with video filming. And also in Kariņš's style, leading the government only with resolutions is no longer possible.
