Economy 🤝 justice Latvia's economic growth and competitiveness are closely linked to entrepreneurs' and investors' trust in the state's legal environment. An investor must have confidence that their rights will be effectively protected. That is why today I invited entrepreneurs, representatives of the judiciary and the financial sector to a discussion, outlining future work directions: ✅ speed up the examination of civil cases and prevent deliberate delays in litigation; ✅ promote judicial specialization and uniform court practice; ✅ make greater use of digital solutions and artificial intelligence; ✅ strengthen mediation and other alternative dispute resolution methods; ✅ reduce unnecessary bureaucracy and procedural burden. The rule of law is not an obstacle to business. An effective judicial system is one of the most important competitive advantages of Latvia, so I will continue working so that entrepreneurs in Latvia can rely on a fast, high-quality and predictable court process! @IvarsAuzins With such a mandate, arguments that one cannot do this or that would naturally disappear immediately. In coalitions that is objectively not possible.

Is it true that Kulbergs will have 51 seats in parliament and no coalition will be needed?

INFORMATION ABOUT THE NEPAL TRAGEDY. Current as of 1.09. A Ministry of Foreign Affairs employee has departed to Nepal to carry out coordination work on site to help the families and relatives of the 33 missing 🇱🇻 citizens (earlier information of 43 has been clarified). Yesterday @Braze_Baiba spoke with the Nepalese minister, full support for 🇱🇻, everything needed. From China there is silence for now after the note was sent and the announced call, but today more information may be available. 30 closest blood relatives have provided DNA samples to the State Police, which are being digitally provided to Nepalese rescue services. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs convened a coordination meeting on 31.08 for state and municipal institutions, defining the range of issues where state and municipal support, involvement, and assistance will be needed if those missing in Nepal are not found, for their relatives: childcare, social assistance, education, health care, and other areas. Representatives of responsible state and municipal institutions will soon prepare useful practical information, which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will then pass to the relatives of the missing, inviting them to contact the relevant institutions. The MFA met by VTC with Israeli experts on victim identification and issues. The MFA met with NGO representatives ready to provide support.

Forgive me, I clearly said at the coalition meeting that I am ready to lead the political coordination discussion between factions, the time is set for Friday at 12:00, Dombrava accepted at Monday's meeting. If it is not coordinated among officials, we will coordinate politically on Friday. It is a basic Cabinet rules requirement, there must be at least the FM, TM and definitely the Chancellery of the Cabinet coordination in order to move forward to the Cabinet. That was not and has not been. I think it is a very constructive and rational proposal to resolve the matter as quickly as possible.

The Prime Minister complains that approvals are missing. Whose duty is it, if not the Prime Minister's, to ensure that the government's work moves forward? The Prime Minister is not a clerk whose job is to note that a paper is missing from some file. The Prime Minister leads the government, convenes ministers, resolves disagreements and achieves decisions. The government declaration states in black and white: restrict the issuing of long-term visas and residence permits, set the permissible number of third-country nationals and close schemes for legalising economic immigrants. Mr Prime Minister, you did not stop the 'theatre'. You yourself stalled the implementation of your own government declaration. When Interior Minister @janisdombrava has submitted concrete proposals, the Prime Minister does not organise their review and make a decision, but publicly announces that approvals are missing, and calls the work done a 'theatrical fight' and 'dull voter fishing'. Open tunnels on the border. Raids are taking place. Immigration control is being stepped up. Quotas for third-country nationals are being prepared, stricter requirements for foreign students and universities, control over employment intermediaries and liability for residence rule violations. Where exactly is the theatre here? When the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister toured the border and stood in front of cameras, that was obviously statesmanship. When uncomfortable decisions have to be made and powerful economic interests opposed, it suddenly becomes 'hysteria'. That's where the story about procedure ends. In one hand @AndrisKulbergs holds the government declaration promising to restrict the issuing of long-term visas and residence permits. In the other hand he holds proposals to keep investor temporary residence permits, the so-called 'golden visas'. The immigration restriction plan still needs at least 14 more approvals. The 'golden visa' idea apparently only needs an investment fund brochure and promises of rich sheikhs. Latvia does not need an immigration policy in which security solutions can be postponed while residence permits can again be turned into a commodity. Latvia does not need a system in which the interests of universities, labour intermediaries and various investment schemes matter more than the state's ability to control who enters Latvia, why they stay here and what they do here. If the Prime Minister objects to specific points of the plan, he should simply say so. If corrections are needed, they should be made. If ministries cannot agree, the Prime Minister should sit them at one table and reach a decision. That is exactly what the Prime Minister is paid for. Not for videos in which he publicly scolds his government's ministers and explains to the public why the government cannot do its own job. Restricting immigration is not theatre. The theatre begins when the Prime Minister promises one thing, brakes another and pushes a third.

Thank you @AndrisKulbergs for the ability to put aside emotions and restore a respectful discussion on migration policy. Opinions may differ, but politicians must understand that other discussion participants also represent a certain part of society, its views and expectations from state policy. https://t.co/dZmc8jl2mL

I greatly respect Kulbergs for the decisive and dynamic government work, but this time it seems it will be off the mark. @janisdombrava The immigration restriction plan has been in coordination since July, not yesterday. And it is completely clear that, for example, Gribu palīdzēt bēgļiem or the JV-led ministries will never approve it because they are conceptually against restricting immigration. Perhaps NA started political coordination too late, perhaps. But at the civil service level the plan has been coordinated since July. I call on AS and NA to sit down at the negotiating table, discuss and reach agreement. Because the current mutual insults only benefit migration lobbyists, including the Progressives, Unity and Gribu palīdzēt bēgļiem, whose activists today so suddenly started supporting "Kulbergs' position". Just for that it would be worth thinking about - if enemies start praising you, something is not right. I believe and hope that AS and NA are the closest allies both before and after the elections. Don't let yourselves be set against each other!

Probably quite a lot, because I personally don't have time to deal with and sort them. There are many such small everyday questions, a whole lapful, and unfortunately not everyone has enough time. I will soon end my career in public administration, according to schedule, but I will still sort out a bunch of questions. As much as I can🤷🏼‍♀️

@guntarsv Do you know how much it will cost? :)

As we will again devote half a day tomorrow to such and similar issues - 'Justice meets Economy' - I have organized a broad meeting where on one side of the table are LDDK, LTRK, foreign investors, etc., and on the other side leading justice sector people. Together we must find solutions for Latvia's economic growth also through justice.

@EdvardsSmiltens could also end the state administration's practice of always litigating to the last instance even in lost cases. That absurdly burdens both the justice system and wastes institutional resources.

⚖️ The court must serve justice, not bureaucracy. The government has supported the amendments prepared by the Ministry of Justice to make the administrative process faster, simpler and more accessible to people and businesses. What will it mean in practice? 📨 Less bureaucracy and unnecessary costs – institutions will no longer have to send every unfavourable administrative act by registered mail. 💻 Wider opportunities to participate in court hearings remotely – no need to waste time and money on travel. 💶 More responsible use of taxpayers' money – state-funded interpreters will be provided when the court deems it necessary. 🔒 Better privacy protection – documents will include only the personal data necessary for the specific process. 🏛️ Fairer access to court – businesses and organisations will also be able to request an exemption from court fees or security deposits in case of financial difficulties. ⏱️ Stricter action against deliberate prolongation of proceedings and interference with court work. We are reducing unnecessary formalities, saving people's and businesses' time and using taxpayers' money more responsibly. At the same time, we are strengthening the protection of personal data and human rights and giving the court more effective tools to ensure justice. The next step – consideration of the amendments in the Saeima.

Putin admitted that Russia is supplying Iran with “needed equipment” during its conflict with the US. “During this difficult period, we are trying to provide you with the necessary assistance. We have discussed this issue with you. We are supplying you with the necessary equipment.” Putin did not specify what exactly is included in the category of “needed equipment.” But it’s not hard to guess. “I am confident that we will win,” Pezeshkian said.

@kr_klavins Ask this question to NA and Dombrava. If a colleague has decided to go into destructive action rather than resolve the issue in the very clearly given opportunity to meet this Friday and iron out the points not agreed with the ministers, then he deserves a public 'fuj'.

@AndrisKulbergs Andris, why do you need this? Against the closest political partner, with whom you worked together for years in opposition, fighting against the 'Progressives' and 'New Unity'.

@AndrisKulbergs Mr. Kulbergs - you are sinking into a political swamp. Communication must be respectful - this is already Siliņa's deplorable style - shouting and swearing publicly at colleagues.

To all shouters before shouting from headlines about migration, I suggest you read! The government's and my position has never changed regarding stopping uncontrolled migration. Illegal and "legally" migrants with fabricated papers have no place in Latvia. I am for deeds and action, not cheap, childish @VL_TBLNNK shouting for the sake of shouting. I expect from @janisdombrava a QUALITATIVELY prepared migration control document. I already yesterday scheduled a political ministers' meeting for Friday 12:00 to help sort it out with ministers. If Dombrava is not ready to simply prepare a document for consideration by the Council of Ministers, then he can only blame his own inability to be a good minister.

Prime Minister @AndrisKulbergs emphasizes that the government's political goal on migration has not changed. Latvia needs stricter migration control, limiting unjustified entry and stay of third-country nationals in Latvia. https://t.co/bythmg2a79

@GalGatis @ArtursButans @VL_TBLNNK @janisdombrava Proposed? Friday at the joint ministerial meeting to discuss where the problem areas are... it is clear that NA is a kindergarten, which essentially does not want to solve the problem, but only shouts 'migrants are coming'

@AndrisKulbergs @ArtursButans @VL_TBLNNK @janisdombrava Yes, that's why there is a process, so as not to rush into things. There are also things that have been marinating for years. Can someone say in 2 sentences what is being proposed?

@liepina999 @normundsbergs Please don't... for the first time at the political level this was only yesterday, without familiarization with the document, without any possibility for ministers to evaluate... dears, you need to understand the order of proceedings how the Cabinet of Ministers works. This is not some kindergarten... I wanted, I threw it in, I got offended.

@normundsbergs It's unpleasant that this time the prime minister lies - the mentioned document has been coordinated since July! @AndrisKulbergs

I thought you were an educated, wise and knowledgeable Saeima deputy whom I respect, but now you need to understand some obvious things. The minister must be able to push his draft law through the Cabinet of Ministers. So far there has been absolutely no political discussion or raising of the issue from Dombrava's side, or any involvement of other ministers. Yesterday I clearly placed a thematic Cabinet meeting where I offered to go through problematic issues politically with all ministers to coordinate - do you mean to claim that wasn't the case? Or do you simply want to continue this kindergarten here? I am for working, I am for solutions, not for cheap political theater at the level of a marginal opposition party.

@AndrisKulbergs @VL_TBLNNK @janisdombrava Mr. Prime Minister, do not underestimate the public. Everyone can verify that the immigration restriction plan has been in coordination since July 24. More than a month! I urge you not to spread lies! https://t.co/dtIrhIjIsH

@Gircha Unfortunately what @AndrisKulbergs said is not true. The document on restricting immigration has been coordinated since July 24 - anyone can see it on the TAP portal. The prime minister supposedly is against immigration, but with emotional arguments he is stopping @VL_TBLNNK's plan to restrict immigration.

@Uldis113 @AndrisKulbergs @VL_TBLNNK @janisdombrava If any clarifications are needed or differences of opinion need to be clarified, the golden rule is to discuss them in the coalition. If instead you first go public and scold partners (pre-election populism), that's kindergarten. That's not how things are resolved.

@AndrisKulbergs @guntarsv @VL_TBLNNK @janisdombrava I feel sorry to see that squabbling has begun between two parties that are supposed to form the backbone of the new coalition. Are you paving the way for cooperation with Šlesers?
