6 July 2026. In Latvia, cinemas still have subtitles in Russian alongside the state language. Why the hell, I don't understand? It just needs to be resolved without unnecessary fuss, and that's that. https://t.co/hsLnCzC2BY

Today, standing at the ruins of the Riga Great Choral Synagogue, we commemorated the victims of the Holocaust and at the same time reminded ourselves of the responsibility that rests on each of us. The Holocaust did not begin with gunshots. It began with words, lies, and the denial of human rights. Today we have a choice. A choice to not remain silent. A choice to stand against antisemitism, hate speech, and violations of human rights. A choice to defend truth, democracy, and human dignity. Eternal memory to the victims of the Holocaust. 🕯️
In Latvia, more than 1000 children are separated from their families every year, and approximately 5700 children are in out-of-family care. This is a signal that help for families must come much earlier – before the crisis becomes irreversible. Demographic policy does not end when a child is born. The state's responsibility continues after that – to strengthen families, protect children, and build a safer future for Latvia. 🇱🇻
From@TieslietasAt today's Demographic Affairs Council, Minister of Justice @EdvardsSmiltens proposed that the protection of children's rights and care for children be set as one of the priorities of Latvia's demographic policy! More: https://t.co/hLsu6yb58m https://t.co/WGLE2l1gu2

From@Apvienotais_📌 Today the co-chairs of the UNITED LIST Edvards Smiltēns and Edgars Tavars submitted candidate lists for the upcoming 15th Saeima elections this autumn. Latvia has never lacked good ideas. But ideas alone do not change anything - they must be implemented. The government led by Andris Kulberis has started its work, and already in the first month significant steps have been taken to address long-postponed problems. We believe that Latvia can develop faster, become safer and provide people with a better life. Latvia - we have a solution! #UNITEDLIST #ThereIsSolution

@Vinotava @Eisenfaust0 @janisdombrava I agree with the populism component. That is there too.
Exactly, overcoming obstacles that we build with our tax money. For example, a friend in Silene had their fence cut, where there is a herd of livestock. Linda, don't be naive - these people are no friends of ours and never will be, most (I underline this word) are idlers and savages seeking a good life.
From@VinotavaAbout the illegal migrants' 'survival kit'. Yes, there are various items to overcome obstacles, survive. Human traffickers, other criminals subject them to inhumane conditions, attacks, suffering. This topic is also not discussed.

@Vinotava @Eisenfaust0 @janisdombrava Knives are kept like in a kitchen (in the case of Mucenieki, a shared kitchen) not under mattresses.
From@Vinotava@CerinsAivis @Eisenfaust0 @janisdombrava About Mucenieki - everyone has knives for cooking. Some of the standard-issue knives originate from Mucenieki (distributed there). If anyone wants, knives can be bought in a store as many as needed. This confiscation of knives is populism that solves nothing. It is a pre-election campaign for fools.

@Vinotava @Eisenfaust0 @janisdombrava I am not saying that the found knives immediately mean they are murderers. Not at all. It raises questions, given the tragic situation in Europe and Scandinavia. One example that has not been publicly discussed anywhere - why, when they are apprehended, razors, knives, awl-like items are found?
From@Vinotava@CerinsAivis @Eisenfaust0 @janisdombrava Aivi, those are kitchen or utility knives. Do you really think that people who are allowed to move freely and shop will now cut food with a fork? Will the number of stabbings decrease now? Do you really think that those driven by malicious intent will not buy knives, as many and whatever needed?

@Vinotava @Eisenfaust0 @janisdombrava Linda, of course, you can cut bread with a knife, but also someone's throat. If you say it's for bread, then out of 500 pax. only 30 use knives, including tactical ones. In the National Guard I use that black one shown in the photo. It stands by the harness. We are not naive. We are also not darklings, of course.
From@Vinotava@Eisenfaust0 @CerinsAivis @janisdombrava That is in their room, where their kitchen utensils are stored, with which they cook food. These are not people from Europe, where table knives had rounded tips so that they wouldn't stab each other at parties.

@DievaSuns Common practice in the world when they bring in experts from outside.
From@DievaSunsElvis is a good boy, but the level of politicians is incomprehensible. We have no high-level cybersecurity specialists at SAB, VDD, MID, and VP, that an enthusiast basically has to be invited to the Cabinet of Ministers. In a NATO country! Seriously? https://t.co/GALwkDPfl1

This makes one think how 'friendly' those asylum seekers really are. Very good that @janisdombrava has shaken up this progressive entry, which would obviously result in a tragedy in one day. There can be no discussion about that. https://t.co/hSiQ1FnXjC
From@janisdombravaThe internal services conducted raids in both asylum seeker centers - Mucenieki and Liepna. They checked 499 persons. 31 knives were seized from the persons. Possible narcotic substances were found on one person. An administrative process has been initiated. Even before the raid, the work of the institution in Mucenieki had been improved. Currently, stricter movement conditions have been set at the center during the night and measures have been introduced to ensure that the center's residents comply with internal rules. Thank you to the services for their work!

From@AndrisKulbergsDay No.24 in the prime minister's chair. Homework must also be done by the prime minister. You cannot sort out a country if everything at home isn't in technical order. 🙂 Today: ➖️ An early morning interview on @TV3zinas's 900 sekundes. After that @lsmlv ➖️ Classified documents day – reports from state services have piled up over the month. I can say that about half of them actually contain nothing that social network users wouldn't already know. We still classify too much information in the country and unreasonably hide it from the public. ➖️ Met with the UAE ambassador to Latvia 🇦🇪🇱🇻. The conversation quickly became open and constructive, because I myself have a personal connection with the United Arab Emirates – I worked there in 2000 and know the country well. We agreed to push cooperation in investment, defense and economic areas much faster, taking concrete steps to strengthen the partnership between the two countries. ➖️ Met with @elnormous to hear his vision of the resilience of Latvia's state ICT systems against cyberattacks – what needs to be done, what needs to be changed and what needs to be supplemented to make our digital environment safer. ➖️ In parallel with the prime minister's work, work on approving and submitting the @Apvienotais_ municipal election candidate lists must also continue. This week the final program of the United List also has to be approved. ➖️ Special greetings to our 🇨🇦 Canadian friends on Canada Day! Canada is a great example of how allies provide not only political but also real military support, deploying their armed forces where they are most needed – also in Latvia.

A short but tense working week, both looking for solutions to help residents and entrepreneurs in Latgale municipalities, and also continuing support for Ukraine's defenders https://t.co/8nV3cXRAz1
Cabinet out-of-town meetings are an opportunity to be closer to people, municipalities and entrepreneurs, so that decisions are based on the real situation, not just documents. Today valuable work in Latgale, Lūznava. https://t.co/EWoBzfyeXZ

I highly appreciate Ukraine's progress in implementing reforms under the conditions of a full-scale war, which strengthens the trust of international partners and is critically important for support to Ukraine.
