After Siliņa's resignation, in conversations with politicians, President Edgars Rinkēvičs has reportedly made it clear that he considers a technical government until the elections unacceptable, and in case Andris Kulbergs fails to form a majority government, he would be ready to accept a minority government as well.

We have had a very extensive discussion on fighting bureaucracy, but we have not been able to find how to measure results, and that does not promote competitiveness, assesses President Edgars Rinkēvičs.

I am glad that professor Andris Skride is joining our Latvian Regions Association team! 🤝🏼 Professor Skride is one of Latvia's most experienced cardiologists, a scientist and health policy expert who has devoted his professional life to patient health and the development of medicine. 🏥 Healthcare is one of the areas where Latvia needs bold, professional and result-oriented solutions. That is why I am convinced that Andris's knowledge and experience will be a significant contribution to both the Latvian Regions Association and the UNITED LIST as a whole. Andris Skride will run for the 15th Saeima elections from the UNITED LIST. Welcome to the team! @LRApvieniba @Apvienotais_

During a year, about a thousand children are taken from families in Latvia, Justice Minister Edvards Smiltēns (AS) said on the program #ŠodienasJautājums, stressing that the state must do more so that these children do not end up on the path of crime and later in the prison system. 🔊 https://t.co/QmQ9wjd3vW https://t.co/2Lqeu5qBuf

Edvards Smiltēns (AS): “My dream would be for [..] prison cells to be more likely an opportunity to rent out to Scandinavians, as Estonians do, rather than filling them with people who, perhaps due to the system and errors, have ended up on the wrong path.” #ŠodienasJautājums

Yesterday in the Saeima, the old 'golden visa' coalition emerged: LPV, ZZS, AS and JV. The amendments to the Immigration Law will provide that temporary residence permits will be granted to citizens of third countries for up to five years if an agreement has been concluded and a transfer of at least 150,000 euros has been made for making an investment for at least 5 years in a state-established alternative investment fund manager, and 10,000 euros have been paid to the state budget. If European countries, based on data, refuse to issue 'golden visas', then the coalition led by A. Šlesers is going back to the past that we once had. This was a proposal promoted by @AndrisKulbergs.

Science will certainly say “thank you.” I just want to remind — no benefit has ever arisen without a research base. Human progress is driven by knowledge about the most diverse questions — not only about what seems important to one person or, conversely, unimportant. https://t.co/s59fKCoCGf

@bizenajs_V2 I can't stand these wasteful, pointless research projects... I think it annoys not only me but the whole society. I asked the office to consider a solution to impose a moratorium, so that the usefulness of all research is assessed. That will take resources and time, but better that than waste.

@Apvienotais_ It hasn't even been reviewed in the first reading yet.

✅ Finally done: 10% tax without bureaucracy and paperwork! What changes? 🔹 No registration with the SRS - provide services without registering economic activity. 🔹 No declarations - forget about complex forms and reports. 🔹 The bank does everything - using a business account, the bank automatically withholds 10% tax and sends it to the state. This is a long-awaited step to reduce the administrative burden and allow people to work legally, without unnecessary stress. If annual turnover does not exceed €25,000, an individual no longer has to do anything - just do their work! We promised to simplify the system, and we have done it. Less paperwork, more time for what really matters. #APVIENOTAISSARAKSTS #Done #10Percent #Simple #NoBureaucracy

This norm protects civil servants from political pressure. I see no reason not to organize a competition right now. Proposing changes to the law is disproportionate action in the current situation.

@JonasSeniorJo @suvajevs This is the worst example of a systemic disease in Latvia (bureaucratically ruining the entire system because of one case), where instead of reacting to one incorrect event, you broke the entire system. Now I have to fix this mistake.

Thank you to the Prime Minister @AndrisKulbergs for continuing the started work. For us as Latvia it is important to intensively develop cooperation with Ukraine and learn how we can better and faster protect our citizens, especially near the border. https://t.co/cQIAw6MIZq

Day 8 in the Prime Minister's chair (en route from 🇪🇪). Perhaps the most important day so far. Today a historic moment — 🇱🇻 Latvia signed a defense cooperation agreement with 🇺🇦 Ukraine! ➖️ I started the morning meeting with 🇪🇪 President @AlarKaris. The main topic of conversation was the three “B”s — #airBaltic, #RailBaltica and #ViaBaltica — as well as how to further improve cooperation between us as neighbors. I also mentioned that it is strange — our schools practically do not offer the opportunity to learn the languages of neighboring countries 🇪🇪🇱🇹. ➖️ Meeting with @ZelenskyyUa, during which we signed a historic defense cooperation agreement today. Its purpose is to adopt 🇺🇦 Ukraine's anti-drone experience, technological solutions and training from Ukrainian drone soldiers in Latvia, as well as to develop joint production of Latvian and Ukrainian military industry. The goal is clear — to make 🇱🇻 Latvia's airspace safer. ➖️ In the NB8 format, I met with the prime ministers of the Baltic and Nordic countries, as well as special guests @EmmanuelMacron and @ZelenskyyUa. We met, I thanked for 🇫🇷 France's NATO air force involvement in shooting down a drone on Monday, and I also received an invitation to meet in person in France for Bastille Day celebrations on July 14, where @Latvijas_armija will participate in the parade. In the talks, I insisted on the need to find solutions to restrict Russia's shadow fleet ships in the Baltic Sea, as well as real support for EU eastern border countries in strengthening their economies. At the same time, I called for a review of the illogical EU CBAM quota fees for mineral fertilizers, which affect our farmers. We also discussed that the expansion of AI data centers is not possible without clear solutions in energy, as well as Sweden and Denmark's significant military presence in Latvia and its further expansion. ➖️ Very many interviews with Estonian and international media, which had great interest in Latvia's agreement with Ukraine. ➖️ The Nordic Investment Bank — NIB — is increasing funding for Latvia and the region, but due to current policy, it does not finance military production and energy CHP projects. Exactly what is currently needed for the region's security and development. The Green Deal policy clashes with today's security reality. This was a very successful day for Latvia! Huge thanks to @AizsardzibasMin, Minister R. Melnis, @Arlietas and @Braze_Baiba, ministers of @Brivibas36, as well as State Chancellery employees and the Latvian Embassy in Estonia, especially Kristīne Lauritsa.

“Just because it is written there does not mean that it all has to be spent,” asked whether the OECD research presentation event really requires spending 20 thousand euros, says Economics Minister Viktors Valainis (ZZS).

Even 5 million euros is money, a significant amount, answering the question of whether the criticized additional allocations of the previous government of 58 million euros could have been reduced not by 5, but by 15 or 20 million euros, says Juris Viļums from the United List.

Meanwhile, Andris Šuvajevs, a politician of the 'Progressives' now in opposition, expresses bewilderment that the coalition, which mostly consists of conservative parties, has already managed to support two fiscally 'costly' decisions – on extending the excise tax reduction and on base pensions.

Kulbergs: The first anti-drone unit should be established in the Baltics and other Russian border states

Of course. I agree. I don't even claim that all this can be done within a year. I pay attention to political ideas. However, there are no conceptual differences between Kulbergs and the previous government, as long as no initiative to review the decisions most harmful to state security is seen even in the foreseeable future. The only difference is Andris's determination and human capacity.

One thing is what a person wants to do, another is what a person can actually do in the current circumstances with the current resources. I'm fine if I see things moving in the right direction. And historical examples show that reforms benefit countries more than revolutions.
