@Artillerry @AlvisBalodis @ArtursButans @EdvinsSnore @RustCohleCircle @tikums @VL_TBLNNK Unity often buries initiatives to strengthen the role of the state language. Instead of admitting that it is for bilingualism in Latvia, JV's tactic is to delay good initiatives. JV representative Agita Zariņa has also condemned the initiative signed by 10,000 citizens for the Latvian language. @EdmundsJurevics

@aiga_balode @IvarsAuzins @Broks It wasn't really like that. Public media's exit from the advertising market was a matter-of-course thing.

@CerinsAivis @IvarsAuzins @Broks It wasn't about advertising money — it was that private LNT and TV3 at the time both were interested in having LTV leave the advertising market. That's all. OK, but today other topics are relevant, we'll leave this for another time.

@Afanasijs @ltvpanorama I specifically watched it. It's a a slap in the face to all journalists of that time, including me. And a lady with such knowledge and competence holds a high position at the Occupation Museum. Panorama still has people who experienced that time themselves, so why let something like that through?

When I heard this, I choked on my tea... You can row, but like that, how that lady @ltvpanorama was rambling!!! What is happening in Moscow, the whole world heard perfectly from Radio Svoboda live broadcasts! Also in Latvia, that OMON entered Latvian Radio, it broadcast from underground radio stations. https://t.co/yMSvoTFtBN

🇱🇻 My strong conviction is that the Latvian language must remain independent also in the era of artificial intelligence. The future of the language today is determined not only by how many people speak it, but also by how fully it is represented in the digital environment. 🤖 For artificial intelligence to be able to understand and use Latvian qualitatively, we need: • quality and reliable language data; • unified and modern terminology; • quality translations; • digital language tools. During a visit to the State Language Center (@_vvc) we discussed that it is therefore essential to use and develop the language resources that have been built and accumulated in Latvia for years. Latvian must not become a language that technologies understand worse than others. We must ensure that Latvian can be fully used also in artificial intelligence solutions and in the digital tools of public administration. Investment in language data today is an investment in the independence of the Latvian language tomorrow. 🇱🇻

The Livs are not just a part of our history – they are the indigenous people of Latvia and one of the founding nations of our state. Therefore, our duty is not only to preserve the Livonian language and culture, but also to strengthen the people who care for their future every day. Together with the University of Latvia's Livonian Institute and Valts Ernštreits, we will create an annual award for special contribution to the development of the Livonian community, strengthening the Livonian language, culture, and identity. This award will be gratitude to people and works that, often without broad public attention, help preserve and develop an integral part of Latvia's identity. Latvia is the only homeland of the Livs. We have a duty to ensure that the Livonian language, culture, and traditions are not only preserved, but also continue to live and develop for future generations.

It rarely happens that I get to visit unfamiliar pubs, although I could and would like to more often. I received a 'Zdravstvuyte/Labdien' greeting from a waiter during the week at two buffets - 'Mills' in Skanste and 'DoorSea' on Antonijas Street. I replied: in 2012 we voted that bilingualism would not exist in Latvia, just so you know.

@achevsenetnevse My acquaintances among Russians say similar words🤝 We are all locals here who care to protect and cherish Latvia. There is no difference in the language spoken at home and among friends. Cheers!👏🏽

@CerinsAivis And regardless, exactly THEY are bad and enemies. Crimea belongs to Ukraine and we love Latvia, because it is our home. However, one should think a bit about what one says. Have a nice day!

Efforts to finally sort out the procurement system in Latvia, linking sports funding to the lottery, support for churches and much more. Another intensive work week...

It is important for Latvia to preserve its sacred heritage, and funds for that will continue to be allocated. Together, we will also plan how to save Riga Cathedral by strengthening its foundations. Today I had a mutually understanding conversation with the leaders of the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church about this.

@katrinailjinska It is positive that our culture is supported from tax money. Most likely, Swedbank's management is deeply indifferent to both the ensemble and the mentioned Latvian culture. Say, if you want to dance, provide for yourselves, but we will post on social media how corporately patriotic we are.

But unfortunately or fortunately, I don't have enough patience to save these 'gems' for later. Swedbank earned 152 million euros last year. In 2025, however, 89% of Swedbank's folk dance collective was funded by Latvian taxpayers. Here, however, a correlation is visible: in 2024, when the bank earned considerably more, namely 218 million euros, the folk dance collective was also considerably more dependent on tax money, which made up 97% of the association's income. At first glance, it seems to me that the collective has 17 dancers.

@LV_visiem @kasparskru If there is an opportunity, we will sort this out👍👏🏽

@kasparskru @CerinsAivis NA submitted amendments to the law in the Saeima several times. Every time they were buried by Unity and the Progressives, with Rosļikovs lending a hand... You must not vote for these parties that support the Russian language - Unity, the Progressives, ZZS, Šlesers and others.

@liana_langa @anita_sele This is a matter that needs to be sorted out.

@CerinsAivis @anita_sele Aivis, that is because since 1999 Latvian politicians have been afraid to open the Language Law, but this regulation can only be achieved there.

@girtsgg History repeats itself.

@CerinsAivis It seems all the proposed initiatives that could improve the situation are stuck in the Saeima. The only film that could be enjoyed without Cyrillic subtitles was Straume. ☹️ Déjà vu https://t.co/jgUvRatOSq

6 July 2026. In Latvia, cinemas still have subtitles in Russian alongside the state language. Why the hell, I don't understand? It just needs to be resolved without unnecessary fuss, and that's that. https://t.co/hsLnCzC2BY

🏛️ Today in Luxembourg we met in the circle of European Union justice ministers. The most important issue for Latvia was Russia's responsibility for the war in Ukraine. It is in Latvia's interest to ensure that Russia pays for the damage caused to Ukraine, that war criminals are held accountable, and that aggression does not become an acceptable instrument of international relations. That is why work was advanced on establishing a special tribunal and an international compensation mechanism. The goal is simple – that the aggressor cannot evade responsibility. Here, we Baltic ministers urged our colleagues to act much faster. An important issue was the protection of children's rights in Europe. Nowadays families live, work, and move between different countries. Therefore it is important that children's rights are protected regardless of which European country the child is in. Latvia's position is clear – the child's interests must be central in all decisions. Thank you to our Lithuanian colleague who raised the issue of European historical memory. Namely – for Latvia and the Baltics, this is not a theoretical issue. Our countries have experienced occupation, deportations, and propaganda. That is why we defended the need to prevent the distortion of history in Europe and attempts by aggressor states to justify their crimes. Member states also supported the planned Justice program of 798 million euros in the EU's multi-annual budget. This means that we will be able to work with great dedication on creating a digitalized justice system, which will promote judicial cooperation and access to justice for each of us. In short – all these discussions are united by one goal – a safer Latvia 🇱🇻, a stronger Europe 🇪🇺, and clear rules that protect people, not aggressors.
